So my Don was working great, an amazing mod indeed. A couple days ago, the button got super hot, I cracked her open and the battery (newish AW IMR 18650) was steaming and melting. The plastic on the spring melted too. I freaked out, cooled her down and used another new battery. Within minutes, same thing. Super hot, couldn't even touch it.

Thought it might be the atty. Threw it out popped on a Boge 510 today and while I was shooting a video, it did.it again...

I want to love my Don again but I don't wait to die, anybody know what's going on?

Yeah I own a ton of Mods, many are mechanical and I know it must be a short somewhere. Really though, it could only be through the top or bottom caps. I don't know how they're shorting though, or what to do to fix them. So far I've trashed two brand new IMR batteries and a few atties and cartos. I am not too pleased.

Yeah only thing would be to check to see if anything changed with the top screw by unscrewing it out of cap if it looks normal then there is problem with bottom caps spring with that insulator .
Definitely something is shorting as your well aware short of being whats being connected to the don its got to be withing the top or bottom caps.

Funky i was looking inside my Don just ow.
Look and see if your spring is still good not collapsing to where the bottom of battery is not touching the cap because of collapsed spring, also the insulator must be good inside the spring.

The top cap looking inside you will see the slot in the screw connector and right under that is an insulating plastic piece check that part out as well to make sure its good.

Its possible that what was connected to the don had a short and then melted one of the insulators in the don of collasped that spring and made matters worse so whatever is connected to the don is now shorting everything.

If and when you find something please post back im curious as a don owner myself.

Thanks for the info. Definitely will-do. I'll also take some pictures as well to show you what the inside's looking like.

One thing that happened to me with my Don.
In mini mode i had bought some extra batteries 18350 ones which were different color and brand they were from madvapes and i installed in my Don.
Well those batteries turned out to be a few mm longer than the original ones i was using.
I did not hear it hissing at the time and it got very hot luckily i caught that right away.
With the switch turned off they were still making contact because they were simply too long for the unit .
Tried to adjust switch but even after maxing it out they still were making contact so the batteries were useless to me.

Yeah I made sure that didn't happen with me. I was going to toss my old Blue Trustfire 18650s in there one day because my AW IMRs were in other Mods but like you said, there was really know way to have the unit not fire. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Thanks again. I wish electronicstix would get in here...

Never had any issues like that with my don, nor have I seen any issues like that one customers. I definitely agree that there must be a short in there somewhere. I couldn't really guess where without actually inspecting the unit. My first instinct is to look at the switch or spring, but I'm also wondering what kind of shape the little insulator ring under your top fitting is in.

Sorry, tapatalk fail on the last post... The don really is a simple device, and I'm sorry to hear you're having so many issues with it. If you'd like to call the shop, I'm more than happy to troubleshoot it over the phone with you.
Thanks, Jared

Yeah, it is one of the simplest in fact. To be honest, I gave it a good cleaning, tightened everything and I haven't had a problem with it in about 3 days now. Brand new AW IMR, brand new LR 306 in a DCA and she has been working just fine. I would like to call, but I'm in Canada and the Long Distance would kill me, plus like you said, without inspecting it, there isn't much you can do. Everything looks fine to me, albeit a little tarnished.

Good to hear its working so far for you again.

Yep, still haven't had another issue with it. As dumb as it sounds I am willing to admit that it might just have been a bad atty and then a bad carto. The odds against it are staggering but I haven't had a single issue since.

Funky, I'm glad you were able to get things figured out. I've been happy fiddling with my Kicked SS Don sporting a Genisis LV. It kinda looks like a Light Saber, but what the he!!, it's getting the job done.

Haha, yeah I want a Genesis, and a Zen for that matter too.

It was definitely an atty. I've been talking with Don owners and got to see another one in person yesterday and they hadn't had the issue. The atties I was using weren't the best and I'm going to steer clear from here on in. Just need to get a protection circuit from CherryVapes now and I'll feel good to go from here on in :D

Hopefully a new run of Dons comes out soon! I want new parts

Its beens months since i have seen parts available in the states so i order from the UK....yes the shipping is a little more but i hate waiting months and months for things. Around 15 US for shipping....im used to paying 10-12 here in canada so lol

If you use 801's grab the little brass piece that screws into the 510/801 connector(if you have that connector so you can actually use it as an 801)...maybe a few extra springs too :) Cheers!
