OK...that made me think and I tried something: turned out it's probably because of my drip tip....it's not tight enough...when it's fully closed the driptip just spins, and also when opening it up it sometimes spins instead of lifting the chamber. So I tried it with the orginal Merkava driptip and that ones much tighter and thus has more traction and now I can indeed not turn it any further when it is closed and I notice it much better when adjusting.
That should help...only thing is: I don't particularly like the default driptip...it's way to big for my taste....I'll try some of my others

Thanks for the summary! I also was looking at the Gus-momentous deal that you quoted earlier in this thread but they are all sold out as of now. Which may be a good thing since I probably would have ordered one but then I read something you wrote comparing the phenom to the Merkava and that the airflow is better on the Merkava. I don't have to have a ton but I do like the option of having a little more at times. Decisions, decisions. My birthday is tomorrow & I am going to treat myself with something. Maybe I can just justify buying two!

Hey @TheotherSteveS, what is your comparison b/t the Merksva & the Gus Momentous? Can you work on wick/coil without dumping tank? I just ordered a Merkava but am thinking about a Gus as well. Do you know if they restock pretty often? I am looking for something new to be my daily driver. Decent airflow & capacity. As always thanks in advance for your expertise!

If you like more than a restricted M2L, then the momentous may not be the best option for you to be honest...

Thanks that is what I needed to know. I took your advice and bought the Tengu v2 from our friend. I also ordered a Merkava. Yesterday was my birthday so that was my justification if you will

Merkava question: when putting in coil to you put legs up or down? I have read that you should push coil down with a hex key. I just wondered if you had coil legs up if you had to do this.

I haven't had too much luck pushing the coil down with a hex key so my coil sits a bit higher.

If I understand what you mean, I have cooils legs up - on top of the coil. Basically how he does it in the 'allen key' review you were watching

Make sure you keep the wire on the +ve post above the insulator. Its not a great design and its easy to trap the wire underneath and short everything! Also, dont be afraid to open up the JF bvy three or four turns. I have it 'wide open' so tp speak and no flooding yet! If you have enough wick in the slot at the edge of the deck, flooding cant really happen.

Great news about the Tengu btw. I love mine!!! Just be gentle with it, partiuclualry if you need to clean out the base assembly!

True - I haven't had any issues with the coil shorting on the chimney, fortunately. Good suggestion about using my finger to push down (gently) on the coil .

I have been using my merkava for a few days and really, really love it! I think it's one of the most user friendly to build (only using kanthal though and happy at 1.8 ohm/ 8ish watts so nothing fancy or pretty )
The juice valve is very similar to byleo sophia's so you do need a tight fitting drip tip and then you can see clearly how open it is by how much of the chimney comes above the top.

I have been a fan of the sophia for a while (but it is a pain because of ceramic cups and nr-r-nr wires plus the deck is tiny). The juice control on the merkava is actually better as it has the o-ring 'stop' which means it doesn't just keep unscrewing. If there is any flooding (hasn't happened yet) you can just close the juice valve and vape the excess.
I have the new version merkava with the bridge and I mount the coil as I would my kayfun (on toothpick for stability, legs at bottom, clockwise around screws so they tighten when fixing) but what I really love is I can rest the toothpick on the 'bridge whilst installing - then just wick and let the ends drop down - plus the 'bridge will keep the cotton in place and stop any extra juice getting in under the coil and flooding.

I would say that it is a similar vape to my KFL's - but the juice valve and bridge makes it much, much more forgiving wick-wise so I am really pleased with it. If I ever get around to trying TC I think this will be the one I try it on.

the strange thing with mine is that I often feel it drying out and the vaope starts to get weaker (i am doing TC and it works well). If this happens, I screw the JF back down and I see a lot of air bubbles being displaced as I do so. Seems like the juice flow gets restricted by a build up of air somehow like there is negative pressure in the tank rather than in the coil chamber...

Perhaps air bubbles are getting trapped between the outside of the chimney and the inside of the tank, it is kinda narrow there maybe screwing it down is releasing them?

me too! I think @Grrrr is absolutely right. I keep meaning to rewick it with less cotton.

Do you guys use the loose o-ring around the deck. I cant see the point of it and it doesnt seem to make any difference. Cant understand why it is there really. Maybe its more useful for the new base?!?!

seems like some do and some dont! Check out @kates pic above! If you look on the website, some of the pics have or-rings, some dont. I think it doesnt do anything at all. At kleast I cant imagine what the purpose of it is. It is odd though that some have it and some dont!!

I agree that it is strange. I saw some earlier posts about the o-ring on the deck, but figured I had an earlier model (pre-bridge) that didn't have/need it. Haven't had any issues without it. Did yours come with the o-ring - you have the older version, too?

older version and it had this loose fitting oring draped around the deck. Left it in for a while then took it out. No difference!

My Merkava just arrived I was quite surprised as well. According to the tracker which I checked this morning the package still hasn't landed in the US!

Giving it a few rounds in the ultrasonic cleaner as it reeks of machining oil

Great initial impressions though on the build quality. Hefty, smooth threads, nothing is sharp (besides the looks!) ... the mystery o-ring is still making an appearance for those who are curious
