A long time ago (like ten years ago) it struck me that no matter what I tried, I fiddled with it until it tasted exactly the same as what I wanted. (which was always the same) So why bother with all that new stuff?!?

    add:
I switched to an rda only because they FIXED my favorite 510 atomizer to death!

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm heavily invested in coil tanks for my vapocalypse stash so I'm in it for the long haul. If mesh is better, then I'll have to miss out .

That's why at this point I don't like to try new things because I may start hating my stash. Then I'll feel pressured to sell stuff (most of it isn't even worth selling/shipping) so that I can buy new gear.

That's the reason I've never tried squonking. If I love it, I'll have to go out and buy a bunch of RDAs to find the right one. Then buy a bunch of those for the stash. Then buy a bunch of squonkers and bottles. That's another couple hundred bucks, if there's even a good selection of that stuff out there anymore. No thanks! I'm perfectly happy with what I have.

can't believe you vape unflavored juice ,
I switched to unflavored after Hurricane Michael left us without line current for several weeks. I needed eliquid, and mixing by flashlight was a real PITA, so I simplified to just PG & Nic, and it's not bad at all. Plus, my coils last multiples that of their lives with any flavored eliquid.
Except for an occasional indulgence into flavored liquid, I've been flavorless for more than two years.

but what if it's better than what you actually vape now? would you deny yourself a chance for a pleasant upgrade?

Just to throw this out there. Pretty much every RDA made in the last coupla few years comes with a squonk pin. Unless you have really old ones, the RDAs you already have will squonk fine.

Then it's just a matter of a mod and you can get perfectly good ones for under 50 bucks and right now under 40. Or even 30 maybe :) Many will use generic bottles that can also be had for a song. 20 or 30 bucks will get you several years worth at least. I buy em up when they're on sale for 2 or 3 dollars each.

Just to throw it over there :) Squonking is good.

I spent my first few years as a vaper, back in 2010 through 2013, spending ungawdly amounts of money, chasing the latest, greatest innovations...many of which were unsatisfactory and went to waste. Without exaggeration, I spent enough on vaping in those three years to have bought a nice used car. In retrospect, I'm certain I was "throwing money" at the unfounded fear that I'd return to smoking cigarettes.

It took years to find what simply WORKS for ME. Once found, I stocked up. I have what's probably a lifetime supply in hand, at my age. Satisfied. I've done my playing around and have no need to chase the golden vape beyond the horizon.

I haven't spent a Dime on vaping since March, and see no need for quite some time to come. Those purchases were stocking up on items not immediately needed, from the 'Bargain Bin Treasures!' thread. Eventually, I'll need to buy some more PG...in another year or two. Possibly, I'll need to buy some batteries before that. Maybe a charger too, they don't last forever.

I smoked the same brand of cigarettes for 30-odd years, no need to experiment with other brands, because I found what I LIKED.
(oops, I actually DID try the rather pricey Nat Sherman brand for a while. Nice, but I'm not rich)

If you haven't already, you will realize that simply being active on this, or any other special interest forum, will cause you to buy WAY more 'stuff' than if you stay away more than you stay in. The forum for my make/model car had the same effect, to where "upgrades" neared the cost of the car.

I have no issue with experimenting, I love it! But, after you find a system that works for you, there's no need to stretch the budget trying this and that.

If I live that long, in ten years I'll be known as the eccentric old guy vaping on the antique APV. :) Uhhh, I might already be there since I have functional ProVari 2.5's and a lifetime of Aspire Nautilus coils in stock. I also have some more modern mods, but I can always pull out the ProVari for old time's sake.

P.S. I once tried what was likely the first 'Squonk box', the Carlos Juice Box. And, that was nearly a decade ago.

At a certain point of happiness and joy, you can just be okay. Honestly. It's really not supremely necessary and I refuse to squonk either. I am in a routine with my mods and what not and I guess now when I try new anythings, it will be like, new flavors.

I get squonking is miraculous and awesome for some people and that's great. I don't need larger capacity "juice boxes" I like variety in my flavors during the day, so like, I enjoy RTAs.

I think it's perfectly fine to draw a line in the sand.

I totally get your post, probably because I feel pretty similarly these days.

    But I think you meant to say 2010 - 2013 :)

Sorry, just couldn't resist commenting on that

You're right. Dang, when you're a living fossil, what small difference a decade seems to make, LOL.
    I'll correct the post, thanks.

I have to remember that line about 'a living fossil' .... Usually I just say 'I'm an old fart'

Old fart doesn't work on the wife anymore anyway, but maybe the new one will :thumb:

Don't know if I'm the only one here but I find that mesh (only tried drop in mesh coils) really accentuates the sweetness and doesn't have the depth of flavour I get with the little fused claptons I wind. Preferably ni80.

I mainly vape rdl at between 20 and 40W these days. Billet Boxes and single coil rtas my go to. Most of my squonkers are resting in their boxes but do come out to play when I feel like the occasional big clouds.

If you are able to get the same quality of vape from and RTA compared to RDA then there's no reason to squonk. With a tank you don't need to worry about juice supply, the atty does it for you. However, if someone feels that RDA's are superior to RTA's then squonking is the way to go for that person.
RTA's aren't easy attys (wicking mostly), easier to crack/break glass as well, so I can see why people often choose RDA's over RTA's.
I've now gone for an RDTA and I'm really happy with it (vandy vape mato)- robust, glass protected wth metal cage (already dropped it at work once, nothing happened),never leaked on me, relatively easy to wick, and flavor is quite nice actually

But that's actually a positive thing if you consider the bigger picture. Enthusiasts push the vaping industry forward, it grows and develops. If everyone was satisfied with the things developed 10 years ago, manufacturers would also have their hands tied. Of course, money is involved, but as many other hobbies (because for many vaping is way beyond just means to quit cigarettes) it requires you to invest to achieve pleasure.

And some people need that extra motivation from vaping being a hobby to trully quit cigarettes. Having a tool might not be enough, some need to get emotionally involved. If getting healthier is my passion then I can see nothing wrong with it, even when I spend more than I really have to.
