Mesh wick in an RM2

I was bored, and my RM2 has been sitting on the sidelines since I've dialed in my IGO-S where I like it.

So I popped in a stainless steel mesh wicked coil I had rolling around in my box just for fun.

Actually it's a mesh wick with a strand of silica inside the mesh roll, so kind of a hybrid.

To my surprise it is actually giving me a great vape in the RM2, better then the usual coils/wicks I have built in the RM2, and I just might start using the RM2 again because of this.


Anyone else run a mesh wicked coil in their REO's/RM2s?

To be honest with you I am not sure.

This coil and wick combo was what came with a Fogger v2, I never used it on the Fogger, went straight to a silica micro coil, and just threw it in my box with other random coils and wicks.

Somewhere in my stuff I have a bunch of 400 mesh from back when I was playing with genisis style attys, and with this working as well as it is, I am absolutely going to start experimenting with it in my bottom fed attys.

Now I am quite curious how a touching wrap / micro-ish coil will preform on mesh....

From the angle of the photo, the wick appears to be lying on the deck - am I seeing that right? Any drainage problems? I've been thinking about trying a mesh wick in the RM2 as well. Not sure why, really. I think I'm just too content with my gear - I have to make up things to futz around with. I may have to take up needlepoint or something.

Yes it is pretty much touching the base, no drainage problems, the mesh doesn't really get down in the drain hole like silica or cotton does.

Tried this once...spent a good hour trying roll my 400 SS mesh through a micro coil, finally got it...squonked, dripped on it made sure it was wet as hell...

Took one vape and it was nastier and dryer then vaping an empty HH537, back to cotton for me~

This coil was 1.0 ohm on the dot, I took one wrap off today to get it a little more aggressive which is my preference.

I haven't measured it but I'm guessing it's around 0.7 now, which is usually where I like it.

Working even better, the mesh seems to absorb and distribute some of the heat from the coil in such a way that it seems to kind of smooth out the the "heat curve" during a drag if that makes sense.

It definitely produces a little bit cooler vape then my silica builds.

It actually seems to hold more liquid per squonk then my straight silica micro builds.

The dry hit kind of sneaks up on you if your not careful, and is not very plesent, but leaves zero funkiness on the next squonked puff. Silica gives you a little more warning before a bad dry hit generally.


I am really liking it, the taste does seem to be "cleaner" then my usual wicks.

Decided to wrap my own coil over this same mesh/silica wick.

2 strands of 30 gauge kanthal twisted on drill, touching tension wrap on a 5/64" rod, so just a hair bigger then most micros. Comming in at 0.8 ohm.

This thing is kicking ...., I am seriously blown away, performing better then a nearly identical coil wicked with silica in another atty I have.

Twisted wire has been my preference on silica, and that holds true on mesh.
