Metal residue on Volt coil??

So I took a napkin to the coil on my Volt e-cig and noticed that quite a bit of black/grey residue wiped off. This started getting me thinking; am I inhaling this? What is it? It's right near the air hole.

I don't know if "coil" is the right term; it's where the cartomizer connects.

The connectors tend to get gunked up. I'm guessing its a combination of condensation and/or leaking eliquid and dust from the air.

the black on the threads is old yukky juice, clean it off with hot water or alcohol and a qtip

That's correct, the residue is juice and dirt build up and wear on threads vs threads.
