Hey sorry about posting this here, I guess I cant post in the thread that was discussing this already
Google search brought me to this site

Would like to say I am having the same metallic taste problem
After reading all I could in the other thread im stuck with this not working

What I had done

When recieved it washed in soapy water like most do, to clean all the parts

Use the supplied coil and wick and filled it with juice I like
Absolutely no flavor at all, weird taste

Used a RDA with same juice, great flavor so I know I didnt have vapors tounge at that time, which I have got a couple times
so I know when that is happening

Decided to make my own coil close to what it came with, using cotton
As im new to all this all I have used is cotton RDA's so figured maybe that wick it came with was making the weird taste

No luck, but I can say it produced great vapor so I knew it was feeding well

So I cleaned again , same problem
Tried it on a plain battery mod, and lava tube
lava tube I tried all voltage settings

Did the google search and found this site, a few have this same problem
I decided to soak everything but the orings in alcohol for 5 days
then washed it off, let it sit for 2 weeks
By now I had decided not to use it, the weird metal taste I would get lasted like an hour and didnt like that

Today tried one more time to get it working
made a .9 ohm coil with cotton
let it sit for 10 minutes before using primed just to make sure everything was perfect
Again metallic taste staying on my tounge now for 1/2 hr
and probably will take more time to go away

Guess im going to have to junk this one
must be the metals inside somehow mixing with the vapor
There cant be any oils its had been in soapy water like 3 times
alcohol for days, im at a loss not whats causing the metal taste

I do have 2 rda's, one aero tank all have no weird tastes
Just wanted to try a RBA and that kayfun seemed popular even the clones

anyways guess I Have to post here more to get out of the newb area
thanks for reading

Which manufacturer did it come from? I had great luck with Hcigar and Ehpro so far. I boil them when I first get them, just in case. I take them completely apart first, everything that can be taken apart. Give them a good washing with soap and water, and then boil them, o-rings included. Also, I anneal the kanthal before I add the cotton by firing just the coil after checking ohms. This burns off any residue from the kanthal, but that shouldn't be the issue if you're rebuilding your RDA with it and not getting that taste. Hmm... I do have this one juice that tastes somewhat metallic depending on the topper I'm using. Tastes great on an RDA for some reason, but terrible on anything else.

It's really hard to say what's going on here . The supplied wick and coil setup is made With Nichrome instead of Kanthal , some people notice a taste associated with Nichrome so I would just trash those . The only suggestions I can make is to use Kanthal , torch your wire to remove any traces of manufacturing oils and raise your resistance to the 1.2 - 1.5 range , Kayfuns aren't really meant for subohm vaping and they amplify flavor so a lower coil temperature might help .

Who was the maker of the clone and where did you buy it? You might have to disassemble the whole thing (including center post) and clean it again.

cigreen brand came in nice box with tools and all that stuff

its been totally disassembled and cleaned 3 times in soapy water
and the last cleaning was soaking in alcohol for like 5 days and sat for over 2 weeks to dry out

not sure what else I could of cleaned it with

Sounds like your KFL isn't stainless steel, as SS shouldn't impart a metallic taste. You appear to have done all you can. Dunno if you can get another drip tip in there. I didn't think I'd like the KFL as its all metal, but I'm pleased the brushed SS doesn't impart a flavor in mine.

Where did you get your clone? Perhaps its just plated, not SS?

I only used the supplied coil and wick (kanthal?) for the very first use after of course one soapy water washing

after I had cleaned it again I used my own coils and cotton thinking maybe the wick it came with was causing the weird flavor
all I have ever used is the same cotton from the same box, never had issues with it

I started at around 2 ohms, as my aero tank had good flavor at that setting so wanted to try to keep it the same

then went down in ohms each cleaning and test just to see if part of the metallic taste was due to too high of ohm coil, was just trying everything I could to figure out what caused the taste

This last .9 coil I did today to to get as low as I could and still use it on the lava tube
just so I can tweak the voltage at the same time

Im no expert at all in ohm settings and all that
but I have experimented alot with my RDA and a few sizes of wire along to get what I seem to like on a basic battery mod with no kick or anything

actually I have tried 3 metal drip tips
and the supplied tip it came with, as it also had an adapter so I can use mine on it too

I had thought about that too, when using the stock one
but all the other ones I tried I use daily so I know they dont have any weird taste to them

this is where I got it from
I see I cant post links
ebay seller was max vaping supplies

Sound like hot-under-juiced coil to me.

I've had this a few times with Kayfuns.

Got to get the right set-up; lots of vapour doesn't necessarily mean consistent wet coil vaporizing.

    even using the stock coil?
and im pretty sure the lowest I went was around 1.4 oms

only today I went to the lowest because everything else had that weird taste

I do know what burnt taste is like using the lava tube cranked too high I had that with the aero tank and its 2 ohm coil happen before
and ive ran RDA too dry before too and tasted burnt cotton

I highly doubt metallic taste on the tongue comes from that
its been almost 40 minutes now, still have that taste

This could be it. I did find that just the right amount of wicking is necessary, although I've never gotten a metallic taste. With the Kayfun, less wicking is more. I make sure the cotton is trimmed to be just touching the juice channels. but not blocking them. Also, I position the coil right over the airflow hole, across perpendicular. Not on a diagonal with longer wicks resting on the base like I've seen on the stock coils they send. Make sure that the cotton isn't super tight in the coil.

I thought so. I'm looking at them around the net, including MAX Vaping on Ebay and those dont look like SS to me. Maybe they have a steel drip tip or a SS base, but theres no way those decks and tank sections are SS, sorry to say.
If you've followed the many Kayfun threads, you'll see EHPRO, HCigar, and Tobeco as high quality KFL builds, with EHPRO being the concensus best. Looks like you might have gotten a China dud, but dont let it scare you away from a better clone. They're worth it!

I actually watched quite a few videos on it when waiting for it to show up
knew what to do with the wicks
but I could have done it wrong

the thing is I soaked it before filling the tank
and let it sit for 5-10 min just to make sure it was soaked good before using
    and primed it

now I dont know that much, but I would think even the first 3-4 hits it would be the strongest flavor
then if the wick was blocking the little juice channel I could see less performance after that

but its metallic, and no flavor the first hits and all after that

My wife is having the same problem. Actually a new wick seems to fix it but half way through that tank it's back.

I can actually rewick, use the same juice, and the metal taste is gone. Half tank later it's unvapable.

I've tried micro, dual nano's, twisted 28, chimney, .6 ohm to 2 ohm, tried cotton, silica...

actually no I havent been on any forums for ecigs at all yet
I just watch you tube reviews on products to pick out one I want to try

the google search for metallic taste brought me here

actually I was over tanks because of this problem when I first got it
went to dripping and love it

Just wanted to give it one more try so I can get some use out of my lava tube
as it just sits around doing nothing now
