Methods of Wicking?

I've been searching here on the forms for different methods of wicking and I couldn't seem to find anything solid so I am asking the question here... if anybody knows anything please help me out!! I've heard of 2 wicking styles but looking for more information on them both...

#iteo wicking method where he unravels a cotton ball and cuts what is needed then rolls the cotton, puts some juice on, then rolls some more, then puts more juice, rinse and repeat. That is my understanding of how he does it? does anybody have any other information on how its done? I'm not 100% sure if that is correct and if its actually done this way any insight is greatly appreciated!!

I just started trying the "#iteo" method so I don't have great concept of it yet previously all I've done is take some cotton and twist it into the coil but i didn't get the vapor production i wanted and had to re-drip all the time.

there are about 7 different wicks commonly used
silica
cotton
cotton yarn
eckowool
stainless steel cable
stainless steel mesh
bamboo
hemp rope
and the list goes on
there are a million ways to use these wick in so many different combinations it would take weeks to list them all... and then there is all the different coil combinations and methods of wicking those combinations of coils .... endless combinations
find something you like and prefer and play with it..

It all depends on what you're building on really. Stainless rope with stainless mesh works for genny style RBAs, cotton works best for drippers IMO. YMMV.

There is not really a way to avoid redripping semi frequently with cotton. I would be concerned that the first method would really choke the cotton from wicking well depending on how you coil (if it is tightly wrapped you would probably have wicking issues)

I take a small piece of cotton and twist it *just enough* to feed it through, then i pull it back and forth a little to let it fluff and make sure I have just a hint of resistance when moving the cotton back and forth through the coil, then trim the excess.

I dont know if this method has a "name" but its a standard functional method

Im currently running on an Atomic and or Brass Monkee depending on if i want to vape on Dual Coils or Single.

I don't really seem to have any problems with the first way assuming that i wick it right and that its not too snug in the coil... from looking at instagram people do claim they are getting roughly 20+ pulls off that wicking style all while getting good vapor production and flavor. try a search on instagram #iteo if you get a chance and let me know what you think.

I dont see how that wicking style has any benefit over letting the ends of the cotton just sit on the deck...

Supposedly it by making the cotton more Dense its able to hold more juice and hold it better? I have only vaped on that wick style maybe for 15-30 mins and i have noticed a thicker more dense vapor and have been able to get quite a few more pulls. So i was trying to get more insight on if anybody has done that method and had tips on how to make it better? All while trying to get more information on other styles of wicking.

That's only half of what's going on though. What is the vg/pg of your liquid? If it's 100% PG I can see that working. VG? Not a chance. Its better to have the end of the octton sitting in a pool of juice and pulling it a short distance.

Wicking has everything to do with the fiber one is using. understanding and getting each type fiber just right, takes some trial and error, till one learns it's properties. Just keep messing with it, till tis just right.

I've gone from cotton to hemp fiber and now using Ramie Fiber . Each have their own unique characteristics, and a learning curve with each is involved.

All wicking substances take time to get down, it's a Carnegie Hall thing, practice, practice, practice. lmao

Your right it does just come down to practice, practice, practice. Im just going to have to go with Trial and Error and figure it out! Hopefully sooner rather than later =P

The majority states that cotton dry hits is the worse when in fact it is not the cotton they are tasting, it's the exposed coil not in contact with that makes it harsh. Then again, this is just my opinion and can always be proven wrong.

oh man! its iTEO himself!! thanks for the reply!! been following in on IG for a little while now! you got some SUPER clean builds!! Uhg i b jealous of those builds!! lol but it all takes practice!! but i finally got the hang of it! but i still got some work on getting the coils lower and center on the deck CLEANLY... key word cleanly haha cause mine def dont look as clean as yours!! any tips for me there? lol As far as the wicking method goes i had "prime" the cotton less... lol i think i was putting too much juice on before wicking the coils and i was just getting messy lol... looking forward to see some more of your builds!!

You tube has some pretty decent videos on various wicking styles and materials used. You might want to check a few out. Some go into some pretty good details and I've found them helpful especially the one I found on the wire mesh. It was pretty complete. You ought to check some out. Hope this helps. I find it easier to actually watch hands on then just read so some videos can be really helpful.
