I saw a few posts pop up over the last week about getting some media attention through Mythbusters and Penn and Teller. So why not Michael Moore?

I contacted him about getting us heard. Heres a link to his contact page.

Welcome to MichaelMoore.com

Hi Posidon,

I am an actor here in Michigan. I put out the word to my friends in the acting community that I needed to speak to him directly. A film director friend of mine gave me the email addresses of his assistant and also one of his business associates.
I can't, and won't, share that info for obvious reasons. I will however forward a carefully worded plea by someone within CASAA.

I posted a message for Kristin also.

What has to be presented is a valid, precise and accurate proposal of the facts surrounding this whole issue. Written professionally and with as much candor as possible.

Also a list of Health Professionals that are pro-PV with contact info would be great for Michael to follow up with.

All references should be cited.

You sure that Moore is the right guy for the job? There are a lot of people out there that hate that guy or, in the least, wouldn't believe him if he said water was wet. Guy like him attached to e-cigs could do more harm than good. I remember there being a lot of heated arguments on a previous thread about him.

I tend to agree with tinstar. I'm not so sure if Micheal Moore is the person we would want to represent the cause. He has a rep for twisting the facts. It would probably do more harm than good. We need a spokesperson that's legit and above reproach, but I'll admit I'm at a loss as to who that should be.

Not that I really need much to loath Michael Moore, who is obviously a horrible self-publicist who turns everything he touches to poison.

But this interview really crystalizes what's wrong with the man. You think he wants to help us after reading this?

Moore dismissed criticism over his purchase of a million-dollar home. "I'm a millionaire, I'm a multi-millionaire," he proclaimed. "I'm filthy rich. You know why I'm a multi-millionaire? 'Cause multi-millions like what I do. That's pretty good, isn't it? There's millions that believe in what I do. Pretty cool, huh?"

.....

Moore seemed to embrace capitalistic Darwinism. "If the small businesses suck they'll be driven out of business," he said. "If they got a good restaurant, people will go there and eat. You know in my town the small businesses that everyone wanted to protect? They were the people that supported all the right-wing groups. They were the Republicans in the town, they were in the Kiwanas, the Chamber of Commerce - people that kept the town all white. The small hardware salesman, the small clothing store salespersons, Jesse the Barber who signed his name three different times on three different petitions to recall me from the school board. xxxx all these small businesses - xxxx 'em all! Bring in the chains. The small businesspeople are the rednecks that run the town and suppress the people. xxxx 'em all. That's how I feel."

Nasty and weird is what Michael Moore is.

Thanks SmokeyJoe, You are absolutely right.

I'm going to go stock up on some more supplies from China for the inevitable ban in the United States on electronic cigarettes. Hopefully I will have weaned myself off nicotine by that time.

This fight has already been lost.

It's been lost because some folks don't like Michael Moore?

Wow, who knew it would take so little?

Yes, that was a bit of sarcasm.

You must have missed mine.

:)

The fight has been lost because, like it or not, the majority of mainstream media is killing us out there. Do you actually think this fight can be won with blogs, email, youtube and digg? I'm ROFL at the naivety.

It's your fight... By all means continue on the road of passive resistance. I'll sit on the sidelines. My money is on the opposition.

I've pretty much lost my faith in the United States anyway. I would gladly trade my US citizenship with someone in the UK or New Zealand in a heartbeat.

"Long Live The Queen!!"

Would that be the "Drama Queen"?

Seriously... just because folks don't like Michael Moore, and think he would do more harm than good, doesn't mean the cause is doomed.

Dude... I'm an actor, we roll like that. :)

Seriously, It's not about Michael Moore at this point.

It's about people not being pro-active enough to approach mainstream media with the facts.

IMO, Salmon is a pacifist. He's nothing more than a political liaison between e-cigarette companies and the Fed. Period.

That should be his title and position. Not the one he currently holds. There should be a respected physician or chemist in his place. A strong spokesman/woman that is going to bare the facts about electronic cigarettes.

Also my sarcasm wasn't directed toward SmokeyJoe personally. He's right and the writing is already on the wall.

CASAA has a few irons in the fire to get a spokesman but we're keen on hearing suggestions about any other big name actors (in addition to TokenV, of course ;)) who are proud vapers. DiCaprio and Tom Selleck are on the reach out list (Magnum P.V. has a very recognizable voice for radio spots) and there have to be others we haven't thought of.

Suggestions?

In the battle to keep the ecig available, we must begin with a recognition of the fact that we are asking a law enforcement agency to not enforce the law. If we do not start with this premise, (and break free from the bubble of myopic self-interest long enough to be able to understand the ecig situation from a law enforcement perspective), then we will have no chance whatsoever of formulating an enforcement resolution that could possibly be favorable towards us. Even though I probably have the least hope of all that such a resolution is realistic (and therefore assume that we will soon become dependent on our individual and collective effort to supply ourselves with what we need to maintain our healthier smoke-free lifestyle), I have not yet completely given up. And I see no signs that SmokeyJoe has either.

Hahaha, I'm not that big but thanks for the vote of confidence.
:)

The problem with big name actors is that they are union. Either SAG or AFTRA. Union actors make union wages. I don't know how expensive actor's are for PSA's. That is something you would have to negotiate with the actors agent. Off the top of my head. You are looking at a minimum of round-trip travel expenses, room and board and about $700 for eight hours. Plus overtime if applicable, pension, health.
This is all paid to the agent who disperses it to the actor after the contract is fulfilled.

I only know a few actors personally that you may or may not be familiar with. All are "D" list at best.

Call an agent and ask. Very few, if any, with the celebrity caliber you suggested will work pro bono. They can't and won't.

The best you can probably hope for is a quality non-union actor. I know scores of those.

Here is a link to my agents website. Look around... If you find someone you like. Give him a call.

The only legal recourse is to lobby your representative to prepare and submit legislation to reverse or exempt that which makes electronic cigarettes illegal. Compared to the counter lobby, we don't stand a chance.

None of that can be done until a ruling is made and all appeals have either been exhausted or the case has been dropped. I'm not a lawyer but I'm not clueless either.
