I know the knowledge is somewhere. Can you tell me if there's a good YouTube tutorial on the twisted wire coils? What's the benefit--is the surface area somehow greater than with straight wire?

Usually... it's what you do when you've run out of thicker wire. ;-)

Some believe that there is an increased surface area vs. a thicker wire with similar wraps/diameter/ohms - hence more vapor production. You can try one and decide for yourself. :)

Karen, this has been SO useful that I compiled it into a spreadsheet for quick reference, and converted inside diameters to both decimal inches and mm's. Thank you, thank you, for ALL the work you put into this forum :) :) :)

For anyone interested, it's an Excel™ spreadsheet and I uploaded it to Google™ docs. The spreadsheet is here if you want to view or download it, and/or print it. Current through post #147

ETA: Cleanup up format and removed some duplicates

Well, looking over the spreadsheet I uploaded yesterday, I was truly embarassed :( At any rate, I reformated, i.e., moved the columns into a sensible order, and (hopefully) removed the duplicates. Someone please let me know if I boogered it beyond any usefulness.

With luck, the original link still works, at least, it does for me.

I love it Bill! Very easy to pick the wire gauge you have and go from there!

Wonderful to have the spreadsheet!

Although not difficult to sort the original, V2 is far superior. The extra effort, in the name of clarity... is well commendable.
