I'm not thinking you should use that for a battery. There are usb charging boards for 3.7v li ion on ebay which would usually offer battery over charge/discharge protection. But to answer your question, I know it is usually pins 1 and 5 are power. I THINK it is 1 is positive and 5 is ground. I would guess you could test the male cord to for voltage coming out by only attaching to the outer connections.

What are you gonna use this connector for?

i'd like to make passthroughs if reasonable, or just an alternative power supply for when batteries die

I get the impression retird was going to ask you one question at a time but what he meant by the quoted question was probably more along these lines -

Every detail you can think of for what you want to accomplish would be helpful to know. First, what are you mounting it to? You can't (or maybe shouldn't) just throw it in loose. How are you doing that? Are you converting an existing ego or other power supply (egos may be called batteries but they aren't, they have a battery in there but that isn't all they are)? The existing board for an ego may not be able to handle a passthrough. If this is from the ground up, what all will you be using, as in every single component?

For any system you are rigging that includes a battery I don't think you should just straight wire that piece in because you need to protect the battery and/or know when it is done charging.

If you are just making a straight pass through device with no battery, you will either need to trust the wall adapter or usb plug to regulate the power.

Somewhere in the process of answering all that and the additional questions people may ask you, it might become apparent why I assumed this piece would not be sufficient for your uses.

Yep where I was going with this......and the power supply needs to be sufficient for the voltage/amperage draw of the e-cig.....and protection is needed....agree...piece not sufficient......

This may be more appropriate....just a charging board....but if you want a passthru why not just buy one...they are cheap.....or search this subforum for "passthru"...lots of info here
