hey guys,

just wondering how the aluminide material holds up. thinking of getting a baps cover in polished auminide but im hard on my mods (i keep sitting on them)

One thing to consider w/ the aluminide. It too needs a clear coat of 'sumpin to keep it from absorbing dirt/grease/oils from handling it. A lot of the nice sparkly finish can 'disappear' once a clear coat is applied.

Not the best picture but I used Rust-o-lium crystal clear enamel (5 or 6 light coats) and I'm reasonably happy with it. I mean I like it - but it doesn't sparkle as much as it did prior to the coating. Someone used some other clear coat and complained it came out looking like battleship grey.

Would the polishing shapeways does eliminate the need for this or is it still too porous?

not sure since none of our orders were for a polished product. check gdeal's bottom feeder threads - quite a few people there have opted for polished and might be able to tell you ;)

Actually I watched a video and it seems they just smash the object with stones so I doubt it would protect anything.

ah! when we were posting about protection we meant from oils, dirt etc

now people have dropped their 3d printed mods without damage done and i think i could sit on mine but doubt it would survive under all circumstances

Im assuming that holds true for both wsf and aluminide
