In this weeks episode of This American Life, has a discussion with Campaign for tobacco Free Kids, Matt Myers, about the financial costs and benefits that smokers pose to society. Phillip Morris did a study where they found that overall, smokers benefit society financially. Smokers die younger, which reduces the costs of health insurance and living expenses for the elderly. Matt Myers is interviewed in this radio show and fights to suppress and misrepresent that data put forth by Phillip Morris.

Planet Money's Chana Joffe-Walt has this story about a really ambitious million dollar idea: getting people to see the good side of death.
