Millions of pounds spent by NHS, but smokers still refuse to quit | Mail Online

I left this comment:

When used as directed--to wean the smoker totally off nicotine--the Nicotine Reduction Therapy patches, gum, lozenges, etc. have a success rate of 7% at 6 months, 5% at one year, and 2% twenty months out. In contrast, switching to Swedish snus has success rates ranging from 55% to 90%, and switching to an electronic cigarette has success rates between 63% and 80%. So why not use that Stop Smoking campaign money more effectively? Tell the public the truth about nicotine--that it does not cause cancer, lung disease, or heart attacks and strokes. And tell the truth about smokeless tobacco products such as snus, e-cigarettes, and disposables--that smokers can reduce their health risks by up to 99% by switching to one of these products
