Bring a pack of Nicorette Lozenges along to show what the "nicotine candy" looks like that Ray isnt' trying to ban.

I have some gum in my 'international' luggage that I'll bring with me.

Also note that related to this we are still doing other discussions and campaigning in the background. Greg phoned the lady from the Utah PTA who spoke at the hearing on Friday and received a very negative outcome from her (rude comments then hung up on him). I contacted her via email and took a different approach using a method I've used in my corporate politics before. I'm not going to post the letter here but it was shared with CASAA after it was sent to her (which you should have seen by now).

I commented on both articles, basically the same, but I had to add a bit after Ray's comment about paid lobbyists in the second.

The best thing voters in Utah could do is elect someone to replace Rep. Ray. There are too many agenda driven politicians in office that can't see the truth and he is one of them. How a man can push for legislation without understanding the issues is beyond me. How little he understands when he states that the paid lobbyists come from the tobacco industry. The paid lobbyists come from the pharmaceutical industry today in the "wolf in sheep's clothing" form of ?non-profit?"health" association names like ALA, ACS, AHA, CTFK. et al. The once glorious organizations have let money motives drive their politics.

I was a 43 year, 2-3 pack a day smoker until about 20 months ago. I tried every conceivable quit smoking product or behavioral modification program other than Chantix over the years, non-worked. I know I tried at least 2 dozen methods and there probably were more but 43 years is a long time. The longest I ever quit smoking was on Zyban for a period of three months but a funny thing happened along the way. My prescription ran out and then it was slowly, back to cigarettes. A pretty typical story among long term smokers. I gave up trying to quit about 10 years ago after my second attempt at hypnosis.

Then along came the E-Cigarette which my girlfriend talked me into buying. I only got one to appease her. I tried it and found that I liked it. I bought tobacco flavored liquid, but quickly found I liked the other flavors much more. My cigarette count dropped immediately to about six a day with use of my PV (personal vaporizer, my preferred name for E Cigs).

This worked well for six months, but by then I wanted to quit smoking altogether and the PV wasn't getting me there. That's when I found out about Swedish snus. I had my fears of smokeless tobacco due to the lies spread by our government over the last three decades, but they were quickly alleviated with a search for the truth on the net. So over a year ago I received my first order of Swedish snus and I haven't smoked since. I was smoking something like 40 grams of tobacco a day before this journey started. Today, I use about 4 grams of snus that satisfies my needs.

Incidentally, much of my favorite snus is flavored also. It's not "candy" and it's not flavored to "indice children". The Utah ban would have made both PVs and snus illegal in Utah. These other new products that have been introduced-Stonewalls, Ariva, Orbs, sticks, et al. are being brought to market to give people alternatives to smoking.

There are benefits to using tobacco products for some people and others just like it much as some people like coffee and caffeinated products. Without the smoke, there is really little difference. What this country ought to be doing is promoting these safer alternatives for those that smoke rather than attempting to ban them. It would be a benefit to the smoker and non-smoker alike.

Both links a very good argument for vapers not to use the anti's scare tactics about smoke to bolster their own position. We need to make sure if we cite statistics that they aren't just anti rhetoric - which a lot of "facts" about smoking and second-hand smoke are just as made up or "semi-truths" as what they say about e-cigarettes.

I know I'm going to try to do better from now on when writing CASAA letters and press releases!

I personally post comments on all the anti-smoking columns posted in our local paper, always siding with the rights of smokers, the use of smokeless tobacco products and educating the general public as much as I can about the truths concerning cigarette smoke, smokeless tobaccos and yes, definitely about the benefits of using e-cigs. I also make sure that I state that e-cigs and smokeless tobacco products are not 100% safe, but are 95-99% safer than inhaling cigarette smoke. That nicotine, by itself, in the amounts used in e-cigs and smokeless tobacco products is actually no more addictive nor detrimental to ones health than taking in caffeine all day long and has much the same effect on the body as does caffeine.

I very much appreciate that, Kristin.

As a movement, we don't have piles of money and we certainly don't have much (if any) political clout. But what we do have is the truth, and that is a powerful thing.

I'm certainly not going to say that second-hand smoke poses no risks, but, as you noted, much of which is stated as "fact" by the antis are "semi-truths" and, in some cases, outright lies. If we exploit the overblown hysteria associated with second-hand smoke (and, God help us, third- and fourth-hand smoke) for our own short-term benefit, we're really not much better than the antis.

I love Michael McFadden. To anybody who hasn't read "Dissecting Antismokers' Brains," buy it today! It provides incredible insight into what motivates antismokers to do ... what they do.

McFadden posts frequently around the Internet, and I've never seen him be anything less than as reasonable and respectful as possible in the face of what to any reasonable person is utter madness.:blink::blink:

Here's his website: Dissecting Antismokers' Brains

Hey all! Aaron and I just finished recording our radio interview. I think it went pretty well, it was a fairly short interview so we didn't get to say everything we would have liked to say, but overall I feel pretty good about it.

It will be broadcast tomorrow around 7:30 am MST. My internet service is down right now so I'm having to use my Blackberry to post this, sorry I don't have access to the link for the streaming audio. Maybe someone else can post it?
