Hey guys,

Just tried cleaning my Mini Vivi Nova tonight and made some mistakes lol. Needed the experience so the mistakes are welcome. Ill explain. After taking it apart and cleaning the pieces, i reassembled the piece but left the plastic tip off. I did this so i could dry burn it a little bit and see how its going. Well smoke rose up when i dry burned, so i thought i was doing it wrong and stopped.

First question - is smoke supposed to rise when dry burning?

I then proceeded to fill the tank and after doing so, realized i didn't put the plastic tip back on! Argh! So i had to pour the liquid back into the bottle, take it apart, and put the plastic back on. While doing so, im pretty sure some of the juice got into the head-piece because the plastic wasn't protecting it. After putting it back together correctly, it is vaping, but it tastes a bit 'burnt'.

Second question - did i fry the wick while dry burning? or is that burnt taste because i flooded the metal centerpiece part?

OK for starters I have many many vivi novas and dry buring IMO is the worst thing you can do )others will disagree I'm sure). After cleaning it let the head sit in front of a fan and air dry, if you do it in front of a fan it will dry in about 2 hours. Also you dont have to break the whole vivi down to replace the plastic part if it is the rubber grommet that sits on top of the head, just twist the top off, pop it on and twist the top back on making sure that the rubber grommet is aligned perfectly with the hole in the metal top cap with the drip tip off. The smoke you saw was most likely the wick burning as you thought. The burnt taste should go away with a few minutes of vaping if not replace the head with a new one. But for now on refrain from dry burning, it can really ruin the wick if done for too long. Hopefully this helps you out

Smoke will rise as you dry burn because you are turning the remaining liquid (and ingredients) to ash. You can watch it happen if you blow air lightly in there as you dry burn to remove the smoke.

After a dry burn you should rinse the head with hot tap water at the least. Some like to soak them for a few hours/over night in ethanol, though I personally never found it necessary.

Since it sounds like there wasn't a rinse, I could see there being a strong burnt flavor. Even when I gave a thorough rinse it still would have a slight burnt taste but it disappeared after a bit of use.

Silica is very heat resistant (hence why it is the go to for most if not all stock wick based delivery systems), so chances are you didn't burn it. After a dry burn some of the ash will weasel its way into the wick and give it a burnt appearance.

I really prefer to dry burn without a wick in place, but the stock wicks are generally wrapped tightly so removing the silica isn't all that easy. If you ever get to rebuilding them, self wrapped coils will allow the wick to be removed and replaced, coil burned without any wick and cleaned.

Hope this helps :)

Hi
Hereis what i do to clean:
Take everything apart and rinse in semi hot water, then dry everything with a paper towel. Assemble everything except for the silicone piece and tip then dry burn for 4 seconds, cool for 4 seconds and proceed till it glows nice and red( turn light of when doing so). Then disassemble and rinse again then dry. Put everything back and blow thru the tip with no battery connected to get water out of places you cant reach. Then you're good to go to fill. Might not vape as good a first because the wicks are still a little damp with water but it'll soak up more juice the more you vape

Thank you guys for the quick responses. The taste is receeding a bit but not completely. Next time i will refrain from dry burning and go with a fan dry instead. Btw, how long should i go in between cleaning it? I had been vaping this one (was brand new) for 2 days before i cleaned it just now. And is it ok to leave juice in it overnight?

I would do it every few tanks, but mostly based on appearance of the coil. You'll see when its getting gunked up. Sweet and/or dark liquids and NETs (naturally extracted tobaccos) gunk up a coil much quicker.

Vaping this unflavored liquid I practically don't even have to clean my coils, as there isn't much in the liquid to cause the residue.

I always leave liquid in my delivery systems over night and have never had an issue. I recall some people having issues with CE4s leaking over night but I haven't seen a mention of that in awhile.

Ahh see i use 80% VG based liquids with sweet flavors (some candyish, some fruity). I tried Apollo before getting my current setup (VV Spinner), and after some research learned that their pre-filled's are all PG based. It hurt my stomach and got me pretty light headed. The VG feels more natural for me personally, even though i've heard contradicting stories. Using such a thick, sweet liquid means i need to be careful and watch/clean it more often right?

I usually clean them everytime I change to a new juice or if your using the same juice then every 2 weeks if you use it everyday. The durations that you clean it will also depend on the juice that your using. All vg will clog the coil pretty quick so cleaning might be every week, a good rule of thumb is once the taste or vapor dimishes to the point that you notice it then its time for a cleaning. Also I soak all parts in vodka for a few minutes while vigorously shaking the cup that the parts are in, after that rinse everything with hot water then dry. You can leave juice in there as long as you want, I have a few vivi's that had had same juice in them for a few months I just dont use them and have yet to clean them out but they havent leaked yet
