I ordered these (as they are usually 20$ for one, fasttech just put them out for 6.82$ for all three) as well. When they show up in a month they might make coiling a little easierPretty cool, check out the Rip Tripper review of them.
$6.82 Kuro Koiler Wire Coiling Tool (3-Piece Set) - CW-20 + CW-25 + CW-30 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
Actually, I saw them today, and skipped putting those on my "Wish list" and put them right into my cart instead!
Haven't hit the "buy" button yet, because I really have to throttle myself when it comes to FT. Got a package today from them and have 2 more packages in the mail (or perhaps "on the boat").
Those really do look very good! Kind of like "Wire-wrappers" but for coils. (I actually have some aluminum rod stock in my lathe at the moment that I am halfway through machining to do something very similar, but I may not bother. The darned aluminum rod cost more than this set!!!!!)
And FT shipping hasn't been that bad these days (although I don't think these are going to be in stock for another week?) Usually about 2 weeks to get here, it just feels like months!
The only thing I am a bit curious about with these is that it seems the screws force a (big) gap between the two flat surfaces. With wire-wrap, the two surfaces meet flush, and as you wind the coil, each layer pushes them apart a bit (so the new turn can fit over the old turn). Makes a very tight coil. Hope these do the same!
ETA: Fattlestar, you (I think I can say suck here?)! Watched the Rip Trippers video, and had to buy them!
Now that I see how they actually work, this is perfect! Looks like it's better even than the "artistic wire coiling gizmo (which I have, and was going to recommend to you EXCEPT THAT YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND MUCH MONEY!!!!!!) Think you made the better choice, by a long shot, though!
Gotta love fasttech (although the stuff I got today included one item that was the first I've been extremely disappointed in!)
