Worst Christmas... not sure of the year... still trying to blot it out as best I can. Let's just say that my mom isn't always one of the most pleasant people in the world. She decided to spend a whole month at my house with the grandkids... We lived in PA and she in AK at the time. She was very jealous/competitive with the other set of grandparents... she wanted the kids to do their Christmas stuff before the other set got there and that didn't happen so she went to her room and pouted. When the others arrived, she wouldn't come out so the kids could do their thing... she was rude and nasty the rest of the day...finally time to go to bed thankful that the day was over and before I get to sleep, the dog rolls a skunk on the porch....It was several years until I spoke to her again... not until after she apologized to everyone.

Now she is 80 and I moved her to town to look after her and pops... I still don't let her get away with being nasty to people.

I remember the Christmas Eve Blizzard of 1982

(From Local Newspaper, its amazing what you can find on the internet)

"On Christmas Eve, snow fell heavily on Denver, as everywhere in Colorado and it continued to fall through December 25. High winds whipped snow into massive drifts over highways, cars, livestock, houses and streets. Travelers were stranded for days after giving up the fight to get anywhere. Schools were already closed for the holiday, so most people stayed exactly where they were and waited out the storm. The official tally was 23.8 inches. Some areas received a good deal more, closer to 29 inches."

My husband and I both worked the graveyard shift, it took us nearly 2 hours to get home that day, usually took 25 minutes. Made it home just in time before they closed traffic to just emergency vehicles. We spent 4 days in the house playing B17 Bomber (a new video game) with the kids and had a great time. We stayed in our pajamas the whole time. It is the only time we have ever had to dig ourselves out of our house, not in. Good memories ♥♥♥

That's a great story! :)

Thank God I'm in Florida though... Even though it's pretty chilly here today. Us Floridians are notorious for being wimps to the cold....I'm looking for a coat when it gets below 60!

Hi Joan,

Yep....unfortunately not all Holiday memories are the best. I've had a few rough ones myself, so I definitely can relate..... ;) I do appreciate you sharing it with us!

Keep'em coming! :)

Elvis has to be one of most favorite singers for the classics.......so of course I love all of his Christmas songs....He knew how to keep Christmas all year long........I would have loved to see him in Vegas in the late 60's - early 70's........

Oh heck yea! :)

"Blue Christmas" sounds great any time of the year. Elvis did a wonderful job with Holiday and Gospel music too. Incredible singer and performer as well. I never saw him in concert BUT...my Stepmother did when I was a little guy. Saw him at the Hilton near Disney World. She also had one of his sweat towels with a big letter "E" on it that he threw to her in the crowd and a photo with him too. She cherished those until the day she passed.

Good choice!

Halloween. I dressed up as a "Victorian era woman of the night" and then took my kid to her school for a kid's costume contest...problem was I won for adults. So in front of everyone I was asked what I was dressed as...where I tried to come up with a clean answer as quick as possible...well the announcer figured it out...and quickly said "vampire" lol
