Hello all, I received a 30 mL bottle of 555 today, and just recently started reading about VG and the amounts of vapor it produces.

My questions are:
What is the recommended VG:pG ratios. I have seen 70/30 but forgot if that ratio is VG:pG, or PG:VG.

I want to mix my PG based e liquid with plain 100% VG liquid, am I going to be doing something wrong when doing that?

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

I've read numerous posts, and just don't want to screw anything up.

A mixture of 70 percent PG with 30 percent VG will give a nice amount of vapor. A PG base for a nice TH, a touch of VG for a nice vapor.

Yes, many ppl do vape VG only for one reason or another. Cignot has a VG only line. Some ppl believe it to be not as flavorful as the PG base, but that can be remedied by adding extra flavor. The VG has a sweet taste to it. Be sure and thin it down properly with a little distilled water so it doesn't trash your atty. If you want TH, thin it down a little with some Everclear or 151 proof alcohol. Have fun.

If I am going to mix my 555 PG with 100% unflavored VG, will I still have to mix distilled water with it, or should I be good to go?

I just read a post and a few people commented and said some do cut the VG then mix, and some say they don't cut and mix, ill just have to do some experimentation it looks like, I'm going for some CLOUDS.

Can't remember who now, but someone over in the DIY subforum told me that when I DIY to thin it so it drips like water. They really do have the DIY down to a fine art over there.

I'll have to see what I can dig up over there, I just read 4 parts water 1 part VG.
One needs to understand what VG is and DOES to comprehend how to mix it perse. When e liquid came about, it was all PG. Some folks are allergic to PG but are fine on VG. But ti was also discovered that VG produces more vapour than PG, and it does, with side effects.

  • VG whilst produces more vapour does not wick well, the viscosity is too great;
  • VG masks flavour but produces great vapour;
  • VG to wick well needs to be cut 4/1 with H2O and also to flow well;
  • cutting VG with H2O does not affect flavour, if anything it enhances flavour;
  • to drippers heavy concentrations of VG = good;
  • heavy concentrations of VG = clogged and short lived atomisers;
  • VG does not have the wetness of PG;
  • not having the wetting properties = uncooled atomisers;
  • un-cooled atomisers = burnt taste, also shorter life;
We have grown beyond what ecigs are about IMHO. Most have found that a mix (those who are not allergic to PG) of 80/20 (PG/VG) is near perfect. It does not mask flavours perse; renders good vapour; wicks relatively well; and can be driped responsibly as well.

For folks who use carts and cartomisers, cutting VG 4/1 with H2O provides a liquid that wicks and flows well, while producing flavour and great vapour. We will not discuss PGA in this segemnt. That is a misconception as well.

Back to OP's question, any cutting of a liquid = reductuion in both flavour and nicotine.

Before you mix anything, remember that when you put Anything in e-juice you are going to reduce the nicotine mg level and you are going to reduce the flavors.

That said, what are you looking for? It sounds like you want more vapor out of the juice you have. If so, Yes, adding Pure VG is fine. What I would suggest is that you make a small batch first and see if you like it.

Adding 30% VG is going to make lots of vapor but the taste might be kinda bland. You might try adding 15% pure VG to what you have. This should increase the vapor and not dillute the flavor drastically. Just try a small batch first.

Recipe for 2.5ml:

42 Drops of your PG 555
8 Drops Pure VG

Try it out and if you like it, you can make more. If you don't like it you didn't spoil the entire 30ml of 555.

What ever you do, write it down and save it. It is a real drag when you get the Perfect blend after 3 or 4 trials only to not be able to make it again because you can't remember the recipe.

Thanks to both of you guys, both posts were very helpful!

I've been viewing tastyvapor.com, and diyflavorshack.com and it looks like I'm going to grab a few things from both places, and see what I can get.

As far as VG liquid goes, I have looked at a few places around here, and I have only been able to find some kind of liquid for your hands. I'm going to try the health food store here tomorrow, but I doubt I'll have any luck.

Not sure if you have CVS Pharmacy out where you are but here is a link to one place that VG can be found.

Buy CVS Pure Glycerin USP online at CVS.com

What ever you buy, It has to say USP on the label.

Another thing you can do if you are going to do a buy at someone like tastyvapor is to but 555 in 100% Vg base for what ever mg level you have.

Then you could mix the 555 PG with the 555 VG to fine tune the vapor production. Since both are 555, you would not lose any flavor.

Or you could buy Vanilla of Caramel e-Juice in 100% VG and make your own blends. The possibilries at that point become endless.

I don't have a CVS around that I am aware of, but I didnt find a 555 Flavor from Tasty, so Ill take your suggestion on Vanilla!

Rite Aid also carries VG on the shelf around the band aids, look carefully it is hard to miss
I have a Right Aid down a few blocks, thanks for the tip!

Another place you can find VG is at Michael's craft store or Hobby Lobby or anywhere else they have supplies for cake decorating. VG is used a lot in cake decorating. It gives fine details in icing extra body and it keeps fine details in the decorations from collapsing and flattening out. Wilton is a good brand. Also, make sure it is USP grade. Have fun experimenting!

It is usp grade, it is safe.

Yes, check the bottle for the USP grade logo. The usage of VG for the skin has been brought up in old posts, LOL. VG is a multi-usage product. Same w/coconut oil -- great for high-temp cooking, suntan lotion, acne, arthrtis, and lot of other stuff. PG is found in AntiFreeze, but it's also found in asthma inhalers.
