Hi Everyone;
I've been vaping for over 3 weeks now and I love it. I sent my dad a starter kit (No. 7) and he just didn't get it. My dad is 80 and really really needs to quit the analogs. I'm thinking now that I know what i know, and that I now own a MKII, Precise, and on order is a Reo Box... thinking I need to give my dad a good, easy to use mod that takes cartomizers. Could I get some good suggestions of types to use for an old timer who has only known regular cigarettes all his life? The three I own aren't really what I think he'll take to. I think I need something more similar to a cigarette, but with a long lasting battery, well made and not very tempramental ... that all he needs to do is charge it and keep a supply of cartos handy. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

if your looking for a simple 3.6 volt mod. I would suggest maybe the screw driver it probally wouldnt feel to awkward in his hands and has a simple button activation.

There are always 510 starter kits as well almost all of them come with atomizers etc but you can get the cartomizers separate. there are manual button batteries and automatic just incase his hands arnt working like they use to.

Best of luck to you getting your father and yourself to quit!!!

When people first look at the transition size and weight are major concerns - they really feel like it needs to look and feel like a cigarette. Most, after trying kits like the No. 7 and finding they like vaping, get tired of poor performance and find that peak performance is the key factor that leads to satisfaction - not size and weight. I'd recommend looking at three mods:

1. GG Slim. Its small and it is pretty. People say it is like vaping from fine jewelery. If size is a factor, this might be a fit. Downsides are that it is very expensive for a 3.7 volt device, using one AAA it has a pretty short battery life (though longer than your regular kit e-cig), and 3.7 volts can be great, but it won't usually wow somebody who can't be convinced by a kit.

2. Madvapes MiniVapestack. The smallest lightest 3.7 volt device I've seen, but it is shorter and wider than the GG Slim, so if feels and looks like a battery pack. It costs half as much as the Slim and lasts twice as long due to using a CR123A instead of a AAA. Still easily pocketable, but has the same drawback as the slim - 3.7 volts only and performance dies down as the battery dies down. This is my favorite 3.7 volt device.

3. The Buzz from notcig.com. This is the next generation of vaping IMO. It is twice the size of a VapeStack - like having two VapeStacks stacked on top of eachother. If size is not an issue, this is the performance dream. It uses the same batteries as the VapeStack, just two instead of one, so it is convenient for me to have both. It features adjustable voltage so you can vape at 3.7 if you want, or 5 or even 6. Mine is brand new, but I am finding it to be my favorite PV at 4.5 volts with KR808D-1 cartomizers.

I recommend KR808D-1 cartomizers (premiums), or 510s if you don't like cartos for whatever reason. My VapeStack has a 510 connection with a 510 to 901/808 adapter and my Buzz has a 901 connector with a 901 to 901/808 adapter.

I've started with kits, I've tried many mods, and found this to be my ultimate set up.

I'm kind of partial to my BB (purple) from AltSmoke. It uses 14500 rechargeable batteries that can last all day (depends on how heavy you vape). It fits nicely in my hand and the button is easy to press. It is a 510 connection, but I use a 510 to 801 adapter. I prefer the 801 atomizers and carts. If you think cartos are the way to go, you can get that adapter.

If he's 80 and doesn't like new tricks, and saying things like "I'm dying already, might as well enjoy it" - good luck getting him to change. I'd say if he emails and plays with cell phones he might take to e-cigs. But if he's tech phobic he won't want to mess with charging batteries and dripping atties.

If he's okay with new tech, I'd still recommend the Buzz. But if he doesn't want to mess with things your best bet is to get him on regular e-cigs, cartomizers so he doesn't have to mess with parts - try vapor4life.com premium cartomizers - that is where you'll get the best performance with the least hassle.

I'd ALWAYS recommend the Ego. It's VERY simple, you don't have to worry about performance dying out as the batteries discharge, and it lasts anywhere from 6-10 hours before the batteries need to be swapped out.

I don't know if I'd recommend cartomizers though..it's tricky to tell, at first, when they need to be re-filled and there's always the possiblity of burning the filler. You're also 'blind' to re-filling. There's a bit more 'fiddling' with the carts, but I think he'd rather be able to SEE what he's doing.

My husband has just turned 72 on Thursday (yikes!!!), and he LOVES to fiddle with crap. But, if he thought, for a SECOND, that something was OUT OF HIS IMMEDIATE CONTROL, he'd scrap it.

But, that's MINE, and you have to worry about YOURS.

Either way, the EGo's got it's second vote!! Hope we could help!! :)

thanks uzza; that is him exactly... he refuses to own a cell phone. And I understand everyone's comments about just leave him alone, he has beaten the odds already... but, don't you think his quality of life... or dare I say "dying days" would be better if he could breath just a little better? I noticed a change in breathing within a few days so I wish that for him. I am going to visit him next week and I'll take several mods with me (I'm a shopaholic) so I now own 3 and got more on order... hopefully I can demonstrate and walk him through it and he'll get the hang of it and hopefully get hooked on it.
Thanks everyone
Ed

I was thinking with cartos he could just dispose of them when they were empty. More expensive I know, but at this age he's got more money than he'll ever use so he would be spending our money lol..

Anything with a 510 connector can use those cartomizers. They hold more liquid (and, in my opinion, taste better) than the 808 cartos.

If you are looking for long battery life, pick something that takes an 18650. He'll only have to change the battery once a day -- maybe every other day, depending on how much he smokes. Here's a list. And here are pictures.

I'm not going to recommend any specific model because I love my Little Chuck but, as you think he'd do best with something that reminds him of holding a tobacco cigarette, it's probably not right for your dad.

But it sounds like you've found the perfect Father's Day present. :)

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm a carto user and I love to refill them, but if I was trying to get my Granddad to make the switch, I'd go with cartos as "disposable" so he doesn't have to hassle with dripping and refilling.

You could have him throw his used cartos in a cup and show him how to refill sometime. Chances are he won't take to it, but if he does then he can try a regular atty. Right now you just want to get him converted and simpler is better for an old dog.

Anything with a longer battery life an a "premium" or "turbo" cartomizer.
