The Riva is a good choice but does have shorter battery life between charges than an eGo. That's because the Riva is not voltage regulated and you get higher wattage at 3.7v on a fresh charge and that goes down to a cutoff point at 3.2v or so. While you are at 3.7v, you get a hotter vape and higher wattage from a given atty. The eGo batts, except for the 1100mah batt, are regulated to 3.4v from charge to empty.

I'd buy him some 2.0 ohm Boge cartos and some 3.0 Boge cartos to go with it. 3.7v can be harsh with some juices and the 3.0 ohm cartos will match those juices better. The 2.0 ohm cartos will spice up the juices that are weak on the 3.0 ohms cartos.

I get anywhere from 3 days to a week from a carto. 100% PG juices make the carto last longer. Thicker VG juices and anything that has a high sweetness (sugary) will kill them quicker. A drip tip and a 306 LR atty is good for testing juices and for sitting around watching TV or using the computer. Cartos are good all the time and especially when you will be away from home for a while. You can fill up a couple of spares and drop them in a pocket for quick changes.

Alright, it's me again. It'd be great if you guys can answer some of my (silly) questions now. I'm kind of lost among too much info.

1, There are many versions for Riva 510, what are the differences between Boge, Kanger and Eliq?

2, Also, which is more convenient & easy for an old (& low-tech) man to use, cartomiser or atomiser?

3, How to choose e-liquid? How long can an 10ml bottle last, for example he is now consuming nearly one packet (20 cigarettes) per day? I'm a bit confused because my dad is living in Vietnam, so he may be not possible to buy e-liquid there himself. It's not easy to let him try every flavor as well... Can someone suggest some medium (& strong) Tobacco flavor?

That's enough for now. Thanks a lot!

Lol, your dad's not old Katling - he's the same age as me :D

There aren't that many versions of the Riva 510 - some just have larger capacity batteries - the higher the mAh rating, the longer they will last before needing to be recharged. As for Kanger & Boge, they are different makes of cartomisers.

If you buy a Riva 50 kit that comes with atomisers, you can use cartomisers with it - more or less anything that has a 510 thread will fit. Cartomisers hold more e-liquid than the cartridges that you use with atomisers.

A 10ml bottle of e-liquid would only last him about 4 to 5 days. I would say he would need a medium to high strength (18 -24 mg). I've tried several of Paradise Vapes tobacco flavours & liked them all -

Hi.

As far as liquid is concerned get him the tobacco flavors (they make a 555 too) but also a sampler kit. Once he receives his device he can use the tobacco but try the others as well so he can find his "favorite" Also make sure to bet him enough liquid to allow for longer shipping times etc. (you mentioned he was in vietnam) Nothing worse than running out of a liquid you really like :)

Thank you very much Chrissie, I'm just not sure if he can catch up with new thing because I'm not there to help him.

I'm still not sure the difference between Boge, Eliq and Kanger but after seeing the picture, I'm thinking of buying Black Riva 510 - Carto Deluxe (Eliq) kit which has 2 x 750mAh batteries and 2 x Eliqu 510 Cartomizers. The Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit seems to be better but I'm not sure if the Stainless Steel one is black color? And it comes with only the atomisers, I think I prefer the cartomisers for easy and longer use. What do you think?

Hi katling. Seeing as chrissie isn't here yet my 2 cents. I'm also an "old guy" (60) and have converted many friends and we ALL agree cartomizers offer the best vaping experience for the new vaper. We do want his experience to be hassle free and that's exactly what cartos do. Later, as many of mt friends have done, he can cheaply upgrade to a tank.
It's a good thing you're doing.
Good Luck and Happy New Year, Vapoor.

Boge cartos are the best out there quality wise IMHO.

Edit: you could try inboxing chrissie as she online.

Double Edit: Thank you Chrissie. You are the epitome of ECF. Have a Safe and Very Happy New Year.

Hi again Katling :)

The 1100 mAh Riva 510 is a better kit & at the moment there is an even better Christmas/New Year discount code from Vape Escape of 15% off with discount code MC15 - not sure when that code ends tough. Vape Escape don't have the black one in stock though at the moment. But the stainless steel one is very smart. It comes with atomisers & cartridges -

The Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit [Ideal for beginners] £32.99 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - Riva 1100 Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

You can buy a pack of 5 Boge cartomisers to use with it (plus some e-liquid to fill them) -

Boge 510 Standard Resistance (5) £5.79 - Vaping Spares - Cartomisers Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

I've tried looking into finding vendors in Vietnam (or close) for your dad to buy from, but not come up with anything helpful so far :( Hoping someone else can help on that score.

It's probably been covered, but i will throw this out there anyways. I've been vaping 2 weeks, so i'm very much a noob. Smoked 20+ years. I wanted a cig look-a-like. I asked around on here, and was told repeatedly that I could get one, but I wouldn't be satisfied. Why waste money, when I would just end up upgrading anyways?
So I ended up buying the eGo with 1000mAh batteries. I LOVE IT!!!!! It is more cigar sized, but not so big that it is uncomfortable. It lasts all day, usually 2 before i charge it, and I use it ALL. THE. TIME. So, do him a favor, and don't waste money on something that might end up frustrating him and making him dislike vaping. Get him hardware that will make him want to give vaping a chance. I haven't had a cig since the day mine came in, and haven't craved one either.
Good luck to your Dad, I hope you can find the best one that suits him. This place is a wealth of knowledge, and a community of kindness, and people on a mission to help people in any way they can!
