I haven't done this yet, but I wonder how difficult it would be. My girlfriend wants one for Christmas and I've been reluctant to get her one because I hear how bad the switches are on them. But at $50 with two 18650 batteries, charger, two 510 atty's and a drip tip you're basically only spending $20 on the mod itself.

So I thought, you know what, even if her switch breaks in a month or two I could probably pick up a button switch and replace the entire circuit board/switch with a better switch that is directly wired without any circuit board in there.

Do you think this is doable?

Here is a video of someone taking apart the 510-N switch assembly for reference.

I am fairly sure that the circuit board is entirely unnecessary in there. I would just remove it, and look for switch that will fit in the space without making contact with any metal on the wiring end. you may have to drill that hole out a bit to fit your new switch. any 3 amp switch will work, but you have to consider the pocket friendliness.

by the way I dont think that this mod has a vent hole in the bottom cap. this is entirely unsafe, so if you buy one you better drill out a vent hole in the bottom cap. a 1/16 size hole should suffice. If It were me, personally I would pony up a little extra cash and get her a provari, a buzz, or a helix. or make her a flashlight mod for pennies. those batteries and charger are just crappy ones, in order to get the best 3.7v experience you should use AW IMR batteries. just my two cents and IMO

Thanks for your advice. This is really just a starter mod for her. I use a silver bullet myself with AW IMR 18650's and AW LiFEP04 rcr123's stacked. She can always buy herself new batteries if she wants or feels that mine work better.

Some versions of this mod come with the vent hole. The one I ordered I believe does have it. If not I will drill one. I should probably drill one in my Silver Bullet as well. I'm really shocked the SB doesn't have a couple already.
