Gotcha.

Like I said, I have never had a mod that Used one. Or know if they are Still Used.

But that would be a form of Short Circuit Protection.
Yup, I actually think my REO would fit into the proposal.

I know that @beckdg and others have modified theirs to remove the hotspring and replace it with a solid contact, usually a bolt, I believe to reduce voltage drop but I'm not positive.

If a fuse is needed for a vaper to safely use their gear, they probably shouldn't be using a mechanical mod.
Understanding ohms law and battery limitations are a must.

"For advanced user only" isnt a suggestion.

As far as Rep. Hunter's intentions go, he is asking for us to give up more freedoms in lieu of a false sense of security. A different "lesser" oppression sound good after the deeming regs, right?
Thats not a compromise.

Actually, if if it's "everything is allowed and is not considered tobacco except that all mods need some form of short circuit protection" vs "nothing will be allowed except for the few things that we say are appropriate for public health" it is the very definition of a compromise.

Though, again, I didn't really want to discuss the merits of the legislation.

I'm more interested in understanding the limitations of designing a fuse into a mod. Is it impossible to design a single 18650 mech with a replaceable fuse that would be capable of running up to 25A without tripping the fuse? Does a fuse automatically mean too much voltage drop?

I'm not the Best Person or an Expert on Electronics. But Anything (that has Resistance) that you place in the Electrical Path should induce a Voltage Drop. How Much? Don't know?

Isn't it all governed by VDrop = IR

How Much is Too Much for say a Single Battery Mech?

Maybe not the Best Comparison? But How Much Voltage Drop did those 7A "2c Fuses" that some people used cause?

How Much Voltage drop does the Protection Circuit on a Protected Battery cause?

"We will take a little from you, or take alot".
Thats not a compromise.
That's child psychology.
That's how you deal with children, not grown, free adults.

It also bans all mechs.
It is legislating to the lowest common denominator.

No, it's not impossible to limit a mech with a fuse.
That should be obvious as we have had 2cent fuses for years.
It's simple enough to make a cheap fuse and neuter a mech, but then its not a true mech is it?

This is an exercise in control.
Recognize it for what it is.

If it had any wiring at all, then its not a mech, its an unregulated device instead. Both the Surric X and XR have fuses and so does the Surric XR's cousin the Rig box made by VAMP. A collapsible spring may work on future mechs, no good for the very popular single battery squonk box's that are about at the moment. If they do decide to force makers to install a fuse it will be the end of mechs. Unless some clever clogs can do it without using wires. Sad times.

Yep

To me Hunter's Bill is a Trojan Horse for it hands full control of Vaping to the FDA on a Silver Platter by establishing a regulatory department for Vaping in the FDA.

The solution is simply, force the FDA to justify their position on classifying Vaping as Tobacco. They have continued to purposely avoid defining what is a Tobacco product because we all know Vaping isn't. You knock that card out and the entire house of cards of the deeming regulations falls. But no they want to slip complete control of Vaping to them under the guise of "we're" helping you so they can control and tax the hell out of it.

They've already established their full control, unless it gets overturned by the courts.

Again though, I wasn't really looking to get into the politics behind this. Just seeing if the tinkerers out there had any thoughts of a design for a mech, not un-regulated, that would accommodate a removable fuse. Maybe something that would use readily available fuses, instead of designing ones specific to our application.

It's Kinda Funny how that little fact Keeps getting Overlooked.

That's why the fact that Vaping isn't Tobacco needs to be pressed, then the whole house of cards collapses.

Back on subject, a fuse on a Mech they're already available and not used due to poor performance.

Think in the Political Realm for a moment.

No House of Cards collapses when a piece of legislation Can Not Pass both the House and the Senate and then be Signed by the President.

Because say'n that e-Liquids that contain Nicotine that have been derived from Tobacco is a Not Tobacco Products is Great. But hasn't a Federal Judge, a very e-Cigarette Friendly Federal Judge, already ruled that the FSTCA Implicitly gave the FDA the Authority to regulate these e-Liquids as Tobacco Product?

Do you believe that, at this time, it is Possible to Pass Legislation to Throw out the FSTCA with regards to e-Liquids that contain Nicotine derived from Tobacco?

Or would it be Smarter to work on getting e-Liquids/Hardware out of the Combustible Regulatory Framework and into one of it's own?

This is the discussion I was hoping to have. I know that what's been on the market, like the vapesafe 2c fuse, are not used because they have ridiculous amp limits. I can't imagine that there couldn't be a 25A fuse that could be used. Would the issue then be voltage drop? Is there a way to get past that?

The legislation was granting the FDA to regulate Tobacco, Vaping is NOT Tobacco. To say it was would also classify Coca Cola as a schedule one. This is what needs to be pursued in the courts.

Poor performance and Voltage drop. I'm sure if some sort of ban comes along might revive devices like that. Could also be included to comply with restrictions but they would be removed by most Mech fans.

OK... But just for a Historical perspective, might be a Good Idea to Re-Read the FSTCA with regards to "Products that are Made or Derived from Tobacco".

Yeah, I was envisioning something like a car fuse, and you could also purchase a metal plate that could be used in place of the fuse.

As I keep pointing out this is a House of Cards. The implementation of classifying it as written Coca Cola would be a Schedule One, not to mention many other day to day consumer products.

GUS mods uses a 12amp ( higher ones too) mini fuse as their 510 contact. It is what sits between your atties 510 to the brass adj pole that then makes contact to your battery.

GP/ PAPs has a little collapsable spring inside their "GPIN"

In photo the fused contact are on are in mid left photo and on top of the photo on right.
GP spring protected ones are on lower right photo and on the lower left side of photo on right.

The Silver one in both photos are typical adj contacts on mechs.

these photos were part of an article I was working on that never get off the ground

Thank you for posting this! I only saw the thread title and first post and immediately wondered what made me think my Kiss had a fuse. I feel safe again.
