As if devastating lung damage wasn't enough to keep you from inhaling it, how about brain damage? I know it's only an in vitro study, but it's worth looking at. It also make me greatly concerned about the other flavorings we are inhaling that may have a fast track to our brains through our pulmonary systems. Scary. More information is desperately needed on this subject.

I've often wondered about that. I doubt any reputable juice vendors are selling anything with diacetyls. I know for a fact that if you DIY, Capella's doesn't sell flavors with diacetyls and Flavor Art specifically flags flavoring with diacetyls as unsuitable for vaping. However, we have almost no assurance that there aren't any other substances in flavors that are harmful. There are other aspects of vaping where the hazards aren't known.

With vaping it's a choice between something that's known to be harmful vs something that's not known to be completely safe.

We didn't know about diacetyl until popcorn workers started having trouble breathing. My wife nukes buttered popcorn for our nephews when they are over. The stuff smells great at a distance and a little puky up close. We crank the oven exhaust fan to high when we pop popcorn and go out of the room until we have to come back and retrieve it.

I Googled for diacetyl and DA. Nothing not related to popcorn comes up. I sometimes wonder what other artificial flavor creations are killing us discretely these days.

Diacetyl can be found in beer/wines too.

Don't see people freaking out over that.

Eating/injesting, and breathing/vaping, are entirely different things.

I keep seeing people compare the two in these kinds of topics, and you just cannot.

Digestive and pulmonary systems are not the same thing; if they were, then you would be able to drink your bottle of ejuice.

Doh! Lack of sleep makes one make weird connections.

Guess if the missus hears my days of bagged popcorn is over.

Thought we could drink our ejuice (not that I suggest it). PG might cause diarhea, all the flavorings should be food safe and you'll absorb the nic.

I'm not drinking straight up nicotine.

Sigh, maybe I'm weird but I swear I'm not the only one to lick the excess juice or just dab it on their skin for the extra nicotine.

I vape at 8mg, every 1 ml I ingest or have prolonged skin contact is only 8mg of nicotene. A cig is 12 mg.

8mg should be 0.8% so its pretty dilute.

I don't see ingesting ejuice different from snus as long as you control the nicotene content.

Don't other people get juice in their mouth?

Actually, if you look up Tropical Bob's videos on youtube, in one of them he recommends mixing nicotine with sprayable mouthwash. He has a lot of interesting ideas about smokeless nicotine. Really, a little probably won't hurt you. If you hiccup, it's too much.

I haven't used it in a while but, I used to use a DOD. One time I filled it up and forgot to put the dripper tip on the bottle and sucked 6ml of juice straight into my mouth. Not recommended and I did hiccup. Spit, rinsed my mouth, cussed, drank some extra water, and didn't vape for a couple hours. I was a little light headed and nauseous for a while. That was it.

1) Having a science background w/statistics/math as well, the "studies" and their grant-corporate exaggerations and the media sensationalist hype, are simply atrocious. I routinely pontificate to friends -- I'll spare you -- about American's lack of scientific knowledge to interperate the statistical significance of results and the media-driven hyperbolic conclusions. So any study needs to be taken with a bag of salt-- we know diacetyl sucks.

2) Anyone who is sucking down cheap Chinese juice made in some sweat pit in China probably has more to worry about than some DIY. There's been tons of posts about Chinese QC and I'll spare us the debate...

3) We need to understand that vaping burning juice into our mouths/sinuses/throats may not be the best thing in the long term and accept that--it is 200x better than smoking.

I'm not flaming the OP--It's good to see, but ANY study pro/con relating to the EC needs to really be evaluated as to the methodology and the validity of the claims.

This is why I'm also big against the "your body is changing" ECF attitude since Chinese fruit flavors tear/tore up my sinsues until I left them for JC. With vaping/DIY you need to ensure you and your body seem comfortable. If you're coughing or sinus bleeding or rashes it may not be your body--effects like that are a good way to guard against inhaling things that are damaging, especially with DIY. So if that TPA caramel is making you sneeze and bleed into a Kleenex ditch it!

Only if you can keep it down. Even minute amounts ingested can cause vomiting.
Thats why deaths from ingested nicotine are very very rare to nonexistent.

plenty of people have had dogs chew up a bottle of juice and die though.......and I do lick my fingers when I spill just like most. I'm not scared of it, just don't want to see some newbie get drunk and try a bottle to curb the cravings
