Does anyone else notice there seems to be waaaay more noobs asking all those 'basic' beginner's questions in the last few days?

Too bad there isn't a video we could direct them to for answers.

I can't remember my username (or password) in the other world... can anyone PM me with Ms. S's email and I'll see if I can get permission to post help on my webpage dedicated to important vaping info... with a note about battery charge time of course.

I agree soup. The video was a great learning tool and without it there will only be more questions repeated.

I hope the mention of name's are not banned here too.

On "the other forum", Spikey and DW also did a sticky with all pertinent information in it. Models, liquids, technique, troubleshooting, etc. It's a brilliant idea that prevents a lot of repeated question threads and it could be very useful here too. IMO

I haven't talked with SJ about this yet but I'm thinking of something like a separate subforum for all the newb informational/instructional stuff. Right now a lot of it is stickied and still gets overlooked. It would not be for comments...just reading. But I can see where the newbs get overwhelmed so we need to consider that as well.

We are really looking forward to some positive changes in the future! :)

It really shouldn't be overwhelming. As long as "the wonderful world of vaping" guide sets and sticks to a FAQ-like table of contents. It's really easy to setup links in your table of contents to "jump" right to the section you need in a thread.

Just make a regular table of contents and a FAQ table fo contents that jumps you right to the section to answer your question.

The trouble is most newbs don't join the forum to read endless threads or watch vids......they want to have someone to 'talk' to about their new found hobby. I know I hated it if anyone answered my questions with something like, 'go and read this thread' or 'go and watch that vid'. Most of the pleasure of the forum is having people to chat to.

I noticed too that some of them really appreciate the tutorials while others seem to forego them and prefer just to ask questions. I also noticed that after they get 'settled in', they tend to gravitate to certain forums here, depending on their individual interests. But whether they have questions or are just looking for other vapers to chat with, they've certainly come to the right place! :D

Spikey's video here is sadly missed.

I must have watched that video at least a half dozen times all the way through before I felt comfortable with the basics of what e-cigs are all about. I also referred all my family and friends to that video as well as a lot of new e-smokers.

Spikey presented the basics of e-cigs in a way that cannot be duplicated by just reading about it.

I had a better learning and remembering experience with watching Spikey's video rather than reading a long dry write-up about the basics of e-cigs.

I think that a big issue with these forums comes down to the limited search functionality, in all truth. Not being able to search for words with 3 or less characters renders it almost useless. When almost every e-cig model is either 3 numbers or a 2 letter abbreviation, it's quite easy to just 'give up' and start a new thread to find an answer to a basic question.

If a new user could search for something like 'Best 901 Atty' and get useful results, it would probably make a big difference. Just a thought. ;-)

When SJ asked about ideas about the new programming, this was the first thing I said Synth. My example was....600 threads on here about pg or vg....put those letters in the search box and you get nothing! I most certainly agree...the search function definitely needs improvement!

OK - I've just shortened the search to 2 letters - it should make a difference. That said, the google search bar may be better anyway - it just won't be as up to date.

OMG SJ, I forgot all about that search bar! OK, way at the bottom of the page....to the left. I just put vg in there and got a ton of hits. I've never used it before, but it works! :thumb:
