Hi again, hope everyone is doing well.

So a couple of weeks ago I posted how I wanted to get into vaping full time to quit smoking. Got some great tips and I ordered some e-juice with a deal I seen in the deals and steals part of the forum. 50/50 with 2 of them 24mg and 2 of them 18mg. Set everything up, let it steep for several days and decided today was the day. Got up this morning, took a hit of the 24mg and coughed like crazy and went to the verge of a headache and for the life of me could not inhale right, yet I've been practicing with non nicotine flavors for several months. Into the mouth then inhale. So I thought maybe it's just that morning junk from regular cigarettes and I'll try again later. Few hours later with the 24mg, same thing happened. So I tried the other 24mg flavor and yep, same thing. But when I tried both the 18mg flavors about an hour later, no problems they were great, and had a better flavor.

Has anyone else experienced these coughing fits with a higher nicotine level? I also noticed that in the higher nicotine levels that the taste was somewhat lighter even with extra flavor shots. Is this normal? Possibly the flavor or the mix ratio? I have a non nicotine spicy cinnamon that I like very much. Would adding a drop or 2 to dull flavors with nicotine hurt anything?

How did you transition from real ones to e ones?

Thanks everyone for reading and letting me pick your brain lol:D

I notice it with higher nicotine.
I cough and gag with my dad's 18mg when i tried it when setting up his setup for him.
Plus 50/50 does make me cough too. I don't like the throat hit anymore.

It's a little harsher for me in the mornings, but I like the feeling of the first vape of the day with a fresh battery. I vape 6mg though.

Thanks guys!!

I'm using an egoT battery with a regular ce5 tank. Since i'm just starting out I don't want to get into all those fancy technical ecigs yet and the ce5 ones seem to work for me right now and I like them. I think maybe I just overdid it starting out with the 24mg. I figured since I was smoking nearly 2 1/2 packs a day I could handle 24mg. Guess I can't lol. Gonna try it again in the morning with 18mg. Like I said I had no problems with them, but that was also later on in the day, not when I first got up. I considering ordering some 12mg and switching back and forth, just to try things out.

For me it depends on the flavor....I'm at 18 mg and find that the RY4 that I used to use years ago (with a wimpy 510) will send me into coughing fits if I vape it in the morning with my current eGo It's great with evening cocktails, though.
I use an 18 mg Butterscotch in the morning with my coffee and that is perfect. The RY4 with my current rig gives a little too much throat hit for when I'm not drinking. :)
I smoked 10-15 cigs a day before, In case that helps!

I've been practicing with non nicotine flavors for several months

Was that 50/50? Some people experience a PG allergy like my friend who is a heavy newport smoker but always coughs on any ecig until he tried max VG.

Also, coughing and headache is a good indicator to stepdown the nicotine level. I was a packaday smoker and was able to switch over using 15mg nic while still being satisfied.

The odd thing was when I first dropped my nicotine level from 15 mg down to 6 mg, the next day I had a nasty headache. It did go away though and I haven't had one since. I still have problems with that morning vape though. That first vape when I get up in the morning is a bit harsh. I find myself waiting about half an hour or so now before I start vaping, and I have to do it slowly. As the day goes by though, I can chain vape with no problems.

Morning vapes when I was at 24mg killed me, it was one of the hardest times to stay away from stinkies since I needed the nic so bad. I ended up having a rig loaded with lower nic (~12mg I think) just to get through the morning, then could switch to hi-test.

Now I'm at 8mg, and at times make it halfway to work before I realize I didnt vape yet. Also vaping right as I get up is pain free. Especially since I'm not hacking and coughing the moment I'm vertical.

You do know that you can mix your 24 mg juice with 0mg and make 12 mg. Right? I've had to do that with my 18mg ADVs since I got my KF tanks.

That's what I'm going to fool around with this weekend and try to tone the nicotine down some in them, maybe come up with a whole new flavor lol.

zachdelaro- yes they non nicotine ones are all 50/50 and never had a coughing problem with them so far.

its funny because I can get up in the morning and grab a cigarette and have no problem like this yet that 24mg first thing in the morning was rough, but my overall thing is to completely stop the cigarettes. Live and learn, trial and error lol

Yes, the morning vapes are always a little rougher. Espescially if your still having some ciggs or just quit. High nic will definately make you cough. Certain flavors seem to make you cough a little more. Higher VG is definately easier on the throat ! That's been my experience. Even the different raw materials that are used to make juice are different. I use 3 mg and I can get one flavor and brand and its great and then another flavor and brand in a 3mg and I cant even vape it ! Just happened with Virgin Vapor absolutely virgin original sin. Was supposed to be an apple vape. Got a 6mg and a 0mg and mixed them together to make a 3mg. No how no way couldn't vape it without coughing. Needless to say it's going in the give to someone bag lol

I have a feeling I'm going to have a give it away bag before it's over with lol. I fooled around a bit with adding some non nicotine to the 24mg and I can tell a difference. Its not as harsh as before but still rough nonetheless. Going to fool with it some more tomorrow but I've decided to start Monday off with the 18mg and order some more juice in 18mg and 12mg and alternate between the 2.

When I first started vaping, I would cough so hard I thought I was going to break a rib or two. While the nicotine content is a factor, as discussed above, the moisture of the vapor is also a factor. After years of smoking, the bronchial tubes become chronically inflamed, and moisture causes coughing. You'll notice the same thing with other sources of moisture, like steam over a hot cup of coffee, or if some liquid goes down the wrong pipe, as it were. I eventually cut down my smoking to just one cigarette per day, and I was surprised that the coughing was still a problem. It was only once I tossed the smokes and made a real effort to vape only that the cough just disappeared. Within probably about a week, I went from coughing my guts up to be able to vape freely on a Nautilus with 18mg juice. Now days, it's a surprise if I cough, even during cloud blowing. If you want to get rid of the coughing, and the headache that results, you're going to have to get rid of smoking.

Its going to take a bit for you to get used to the vapor. When I started vaping 4 years ago, I coughed like crazy. Also for like the first month of vaping my lungs got these stabby pains off and on. I was told that was my lungs repairing themselves. The lung pain eventually went away. 24 mg was always way too much for me. I found out through the years that I have a sensitivity to nicotine. On the small cigalike batteries I can only vape 12mg. Anything higher gives me a headache and dizziness. Ego batteries are 6 mg. Mods, vv\vw devices are 3 mg. 3mg is all I use now because I use mods and rebuild able atomizers and tanks. Also the higher the mg of nicotine the more the flavors will be muted. Nicotine kills flavor. Also higher pg juices are going to have more of a throat hit. VG is what gives you the vapor production. 50\50 is a good beginner mix and is pretty standard. Hope I helped!

Thanks everyone for reading and letting me pick your brain lol:D

The transition can be quite hard, especially when it takes so long to get your perfect setup and juices and the right nicotine quantities for you.
The first thing I'll say is that 24mg juices can be very harsh! Even for smokers, they can hit the throat and lungs fairly hard. I'd say you might want to start with lower nicotine quantities but less nicotine means more needed to get you to your usual cigarette quantity of nicotine.
You will eventually not find it as harsh, but meanwhile you may want to cut down to a nicotine content that is enjoyable to vape while still giving you a good amount of nicotine.
Also certain flavours are harsher than others, I used to own a mixed fruit flavour that was only 18mg and
was one of the harshest juices I've ever vaped.
I doubt this is the case, but you could also have some juice leaking through which may burn the back of your throat. If you try taking a toke without applying any power to the tank, if it gurgles there's probably juice in the chimney.
Lastly, I wouldn't suggest mixing flavours too much, because it can end up giving a tasty taste, and ruining the juice, but it's purely up to you!
Hope some of this helps.

Thanks guys!!

I'm using an egoT battery with a regular ce5 tank. Since i'm just starting out I don't want to get into all those fancy technical ecigs yet and the ce5 ones seem to work for me right now and I like them. If you're serious about quitting smoking, I wouldn't use such a bad setup. I understand you don't want to get anything fancy to start with, but I hated vaping until I bought my first mod and decent tank, it can really change your experience and make you stop even wanting to smoke!
I'd suggest you go to your local e-cig store and pick up some 12mg juices (which I now use) rather than 24mg or even 18mg if you don't want the harshness, and also you may find you lose flavour when you have too much nicotine. But this is all entirely up to you.

Edit: I know that this is unrelated to this post, but if you have just given up smoking to convert to vaping, then the setup matters. I'd suggest you have a look at this tank. My dad uses it with his regular ego batteries, he has about 5 of these and was struggling with not smoking until he got this tank. Hope this helps,
