Mosfets are resisters? What type do I need and at what rating for a high voltage mod? What batteries do you suggest I use for high voltage that bare safest? Can you make a high voltage mod without stacking batteries? I am extremely intelligent but dumb as F@#K when it cons to anything electrical so links to tutorials for idiots work for me. Mainly all the details possible on Mosfets, how they work, how to connect them, if they are safe or not, what the max voltage they can produce for an mod using what size and type of battery etc. Thanks.

MOSFET is a type of transistor not a resistor. The name is actually an acronym for Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor. This, and all transistors for that matter, act as a type of solid state switching device. It uses a base current on one part of the transistor to trigger the junction to allow current to flow from one end to the other. No base current= no current flow. This is the operation in the simplest terms and the MOSFET has many advantages over the traditional transistor but without understanding basic transistor theory it would probably all be jibberish. Check out the Wikipedia entry on transistors for a start and it should help you to understand the basic operation and how they are used. Transistor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
