This is the plane I posed in front of! Wow, I guess it's supposedly haunted?

I totally remember the Strawberry _itch! Didn't see it there anymore so I thought I'd either missed it or they moved it? I've seen some neat stuff there in the half dozen or so times I've been there. My kids were blown away, my oldest was only 3 the last time he was there and he just turned 14, and my baby girl is 9 but is so smart she's already skipped a grade. Lots of questions got fielded by old Dad yesterday!

Missed stopping at VC unfortunately. Oh well, pretty sure I'll get there at some point.

Didn't vape in the museum at all, mainly because it was really crowded for family day, and I don't wantto test the waters on Government property....and also because in the 3 hours we walked around in there I wasn't craving it like I did when I smoked before. Another benefit of vaping, I guess!

We saw an SR-71 today too! Incredible looking machine...

Last time I went to the museum, I was many years from being a vaper, but today...I was seeing mods, tanks, drip tips, and vape gear EVERYWHERE! Funny how we can imagine re-purposing just about anything since becoming vapers! Haha!

There is an awesome picture of the missles in the space flight exhibit on the USAF musuem website. It's located in Dayton OH at Wright Patterson Air Force base.

The SR-71 is like living proof we have alien buddies. It looks like we should invent it 30 years from now.

Next time I'm at pearl harbor I'll snap a picture of the Polaris missile it's pretty cool looking at a replica of the end of the world.

I spend a lot of time on youtube watching plane video's. I love the flight deck views of the big planes taking off or landing especially at night. I took a 'discovery flight' a few years ago. You fly the plane and the instructor tells you how. The biggest rush was when we actually left the ground on takeoff. You stay up about 45 minutes and it's dirt cheap.

I can remember being facinated by the X-15 as an elementary school age child. My father was a WW2 pilot (Helldriver) and got me into building the model airplanes, and the X-15 was my favorite, as this was just around the time, or a little before, the Mercury space program. This thing was literally a manned missile that could explore the upper edge of the atmosphere and outer space.

Think about the time period. Space exploration was nothing more than a pipe dream and science fiction at the time. We've landed a man on the moon and landed robots on Mars. And now we have Star Wars and Star Trek and Avatar. What a leap for mankind, as the late Neil Armstrong is famous for saying.

I hadn't even give the X-15 a thought in probably 40 years, but this thread got me curious and I found this very interesting documentary on You Tube. The folks who have already posted in this thread will likely enjoy this:

    Did someone say SR-71?

I had a young man working for me years ago when the SR-71 speed record article showed up in Mechanics Illustrated. I knew he had been a crew chief in the Air Force, but never knew what plane he worked on. You should have heard him laugh because the AF had made such a big deal over them taking an oath to never divulge the existence of the plane. That pic is Aria 51 BTW.

One thing I have considered is have some nose art laser engraved on one of my mods...would be very cool...

Absintheur, so your dad flew B-29s? Mine jumped out of P-38s to scout ahead of the line in the ETO. Later he got to jump out of P-61s.

Yeah, nose art on our PVs would be great! There'd probably be a durability problem, though.

One of my favorite pieces of nose art was done on a KC135 tanker being sent to the sand pit. Iw as painted here in the US just prior to the plane leaving for the Middle East was when it got there it was ordered painted over...lasted less than a month, what a shame...
