The comments made me a little curious about #7. [[snip]] Can't say much about the director. Like two of his movies, one is borderline, and the others range, for me, from blah to "he should be exiled from Hollywood for trashing good scripts and abusing the talents of good actors."
I'll remove the veil of mystery, and mention the director by name: it's David Fincher, and I'm definitely a fan. That's not to say that he hasn't made a couple of real turkeys, at least one of which - Alien 3 - wasn't his fault. But, he's also made a number of quality films like Zodiac, Fight Club, Se7en, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Anyway, to that list of quality movies, I would add #7 from the Quiz. It's not Fincher's best work, and several elements of the film kind of fall apart under scrutiny. Nonetheless, for me it rates a solid 7 out of 10.

Simply to show how taste vary wildly, of those four movies, I like one, I think two are blah, and I, very strongly, feel he should be strung up by his toenails and Lorena Bobbitt given a go at him with a potato peeler.

Hints part II:

#5: This 2013 crime drama opens with the screenshot's epic scene of Christian Bale, (as con man Irving Rosenfeld), going through the complex ritual of preparing and setting his elaborate comb-over. The story a fictionalized retelling of the events surrounding the FBI's Abscam sting operation in the late 1970s and early `80s.

#6: Jack Nicholson, pictured here in a scene after getting his nose sliced open for being "a nosy fella," plays a private detective in this 1974 Roman Polanski mystery. Faye Dunaway has hired Nicholson to look into her philandering husband, but he ends up uncovering layers of secrets to reveal something much bigger.

#7: Michael Douglas, (with his back to the camera in the screenshot), and Sean Penn star as the Van Orton brothers, Nicholas and Conrad. Nicholas is an extremely wealthy banker with a birthday coming up, and his brother presents him with the gift of a visit to a company called Consumer Recreation Services to participate in a game that Conrad promises will change his life. As various events reveal to Nicholas that this dangerous and infuriating diversion is actually integrated into his real life, he decides that he wants it to stop. But it can't.

#8: Klaatu, an alien, and Gort, his powerful robot, have landed on Earth to deliver a message: Humans, who have just begun to explore space, must learn to live peacefully together. If they extend their violent nature into space, the robots will destroy the Earth as a galactic danger.

Answers coming Wednesday night.

Answer time!

#1: Tremors
First, I'll copy/paste bob's earlier hint;

"If you recognized tv's Steven Keaton, the father of an 80's sitcom family, playing the male half of a survivalist couple and you recognized the part of the creature left behind that grabbed that truck axle, you'd have a pretty good idea of the film."

Next, I'll mention that two of the lead actors were Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. And finally, I'll tell you that the actor in the screenshot is Michael Gross, who, as bob mentioned, played Steven Keaton - the father from the 80's sitcom Family Ties.

#2: Kill Bill: Vol.1
This scene, from Volume 1 of a two-part Quentin Tarantino project, shows The Bride battling the few still-standing members of the Crazy 88.

#3: Mad Max
That's a 22-year-old Mel Gibson sitting behind the wheel of his Pursuit Special Interceptor. In this film, the first in a trilogy, he plays the title character; a Main Force Patrol officer who develops a powerful thirst for revenge.

#4: Caddyshack
If you don't recognize the screenshot of Carl Spackler, Assistant Groundskeeper at the Bushwood Country Club, then you definitely won't understand what the Dali Lama meant when he said, "Gunga, gunga-lagunga."
