Moving On from Blu

Yeah IMO Blu is okay for someone who is just starting out to feel the difference between reg cigs & vapor but I tried it once & didn't really enjoy it. Mine always seemed to never smome right.

Yes, my dad pretty much said the same thing. The hardware always seemed to be having some sort of problem, whether it was the pack not charging well after the first few days, the batteries not holding the charges for very long, the vapor getting very thin over time, etc etc etc. In fact, the longer he has the Blu, the more unhappy he is with it. Of course, there are many things he does like, which is why I think it's just a matter of time before I find the right e-cig for him. I guess it's all about compatibility and what priorities a person has. My dad is a heavy smoker so he needs something that can perform. I have a friend at work, though, who is a light to moderate smoker and she recently bought the V2 starter kit and she's pretty much done looking. Everything about her V2 suits her, down to the mix n match girly colors and crystal tip.

Good choice going with the volt. Some people after trying the cigalikes will start getting into the bigger batteries, and plus there's so many options cause alot of them can be customized to your liking. Good job on helping out your Dad, I'm working on getting my girl converted also, I'm going to have to get a her a girly pinky bejeweled one, but hey.. whatever works!

I have a feeling that is what is going to happen with my dad. Once he gets a really good cigalike, I think he'll only want more, which will lead into the bigger batteries and fancier models that lets him play with the settings. He is still a mechanical assembler at heart. A friend I ran in to at a party had just gotten a ProVape and I checked it out in person. It looks really well made and he just raved about it. Ultimately, I'd like to see my dad with a set up like a ProVape because it just seems to be a more long-term piece of technology. It does seem much more complicated, though, so I want my dad to be very invested in vaping before I get one for him.

Honestly, eRoll is a toy--a nice one, but a toy. Your dad will end up refilling those tiny 0.5 ml cartridges every hour or so, and recharging the batteries every couple of hours.

Just my personal opinion. :D

Well, my dad is a heavy smoker so that is a good thing to know. He was at about 1.5 - 2 packs per day when I bought him the Blu kit, and it had taken him a long time to get down to that much. He also got himself down to the ultra lights, which was a struggle for him. He's super happy with the e-cigs, it's just a matter of finding one that is not such a hassle for him moment to moment. I don't want him to walk around all day, worrying that the e-cig is going to die or the cart will run out on him, which is what he's doing right now. Especially he worries about the batteries.

Like allot of others I recommend the twist/spinner. I started with a cig a like because I like that size, switched to the twist and it satisfied my need to smoke perfectly and the battery lasts allot longer. With 2 twists at only 650mah there is no way I will run out of battery life in a day. One battery lasts me easily a whole day.

How many packs of analogs would you say you smoke in a day? Just wondering if I can figure out how long it might last for my dad.

THIS is the kit I recommend most. While it may look a bit complicated at first I am sure that anyone moving up from "cigalikes" will be quite pleased with the flexibility and durability of it. While they give you a choice of either the ego "Twist" or the vision "spinner", and they are more similar than different, my wife and I hands down preferred the spinner (1300mah, the largest). We have three of them now.

Thanks very much, I will definitely look into this when my dad is ready to move up the e-cig chain. If he sticks with it, I'm sure he'll end up with something like this, but for now he is really stuck on having something in his had that looks and feels like the cigarettes he's been smoking for the last 50+ years. It was a big step for him to move to vaping in the first place, and I'm really proud of him. I think it's been hard for him, and it only adds to the struggle when he's got to mess around with low-quality hardware. So thanks again for the info.

In that case, eRoll is most definitely not for him! :)

Very good to know. Can you tell me what you think of the ProVari e-cig? My friend has one and he couldn't stop raving about it. It does not look or feel like a traditional cigarette, however, so if my dad ever moves over to this kind of e-cig, he would have to already be very committed to vaping. Also, it seems complicated to me with the pressing buttons 30 times to get through menus to change settings...

Smokeless Image carries larger pass-through batteries and VV (an 808 version of the Twist or Spinner). That should be plenty to help your dad stick with it until he might want to really go crazy and have some fun with all the more exotic goodies out there.

ETA: Provari is like the Cadillac of ecigs. A very good choice.

I started vaping with Blu, back in 2010, but moved on quickly to a KR808D-1 because of better vapor production and longer lasting batteries. However, I experienced quite a few problems with the KR8's. Connection problems between the battery and the carto, and sometimes KR8 cartos have a foul taste to them. Not to mention batteries shorting out when e-liquid drips into the center post. I have since moved on to Mistic which is sold at most Walmarts. Eliquiddepot carries blank cartos for the model which is a NW4262. I have never once had a connection problem, a bad tasting carto, or a battery short out (except that one I dropped in a rain puddle outside and didn't find until 3 days later.) I've been using them for about a year and a half and in my opinion, they are possibly the cheapest, hassle-free e-cig in existence. A rechargeable battery with cartomizer included retails for seven bucks and some change. I keep 3 batteries with me at all times (although I've never needed the third one in a 8 hour work shift and rarely need the second one, but I like to be cautious.)

Hope I've given you another choice to look into. Good luck and I hope your dad finds something he likes.

Oy.... the ProVari. Honestly, nobody needs a ProVari, and yet someone always recommends getting one. ProVari is a great APV, a flagship and a status symbol, all in one. It's a Rolls Royce of the vaping world, but I drive a Prius and it gets me where I need to go using very little gas, if you get my drift.:)

Maybe, like you say, when your Dad really commits to vaping and makes it a hobby, like so many of us have done, you can introduce him to ProVari (hopefully, by then, they will have introduced the ProVari 3.0). For now, the Volt is fine. Next step, if he wants to try variable voltage, Spinner or eGo-Twist.

After that, you're on your own! :)

Ok, that is very helpful, thanks! I am getting ahead of myself here, since we haven't even gotten the Volt in the mail yet. Ha ha! So many people have mentioned the Spinner & eGo-Twist, must be good stuff. Thanks so much again!

One step at a time. :D

Besides, there are plenty of other APVs out there. Read, educate yourself, have fun! The technology is getting better all the time. There is no rush.

Yep, looks like the Twist or Spinner is the next logical step if he likes the Volt and keeps with it. I really hope it works well and I can't wait to get the Volt in the mail!! The anticipation is killing me.

I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day and am very happy with my eRoll when out and about for the entire day. I've never run out of battery power or felt deprived in any way because of the vape quality even though I have much more powerful devices at home. There are many heavy smokers and some chain vapors who have posted that they are quite content with eRoll's performance in the eRoll thread.

I started with 808 cig-alikes and went to Twists within a week because the battery charging made me crazy. I wish the eRoll would have been available at the time I started vaping. It would have saved me money and frustration. The eRoll is the most hassle-free vaping device I know of aside from disposables which are very expensive and only a couple of those aren't simply trash can worthy.

I have gifted eRolls to a light, medium and heavy smoker. All three have been enormously pleased with the performance and ease of use. The small tank capacity isn't much of an issue. You can take pre-loaded tanks along with you in a small pill case, Altoids tin, or Tic-Tac container. Another alternative is to take a small needle-nosed bottle with you or carry a U-Can. It takes less than 30 seconds to fill the tank and much less time than that to swap out a tank—just pull the empty, take the cap off the full tank and push it on the eRoll.

Since you got the Volt I would strongly recommend that you get your dad a Twist or Spinner as well ASAP. The Volt cig-alike form factor will help satisfy psychological associations with smoking while the Twists/Spinners will produce a more physically satisfying vape.

Wow, great advice here, thank you very much!

Update on the Volt: We received the starter kit a couple of days ago and so far, it has been a somewhat disappointing experience. The battery life is indeed better (my dad is only having to switch the batteries out 2 - 4 times per full day vs. 7 - 9 times per full day with Blu), however he says the flavors are nowhere near as good. According to my father, the Volt flavors are barely detectible while the Blu flavors are quite robust and tasty. He also has not noticed a really big difference in the vapor quality, which surprised me. Lastly, the Volt carrying case does not leave room for extra carts, so he has to have them stuffed somewhere else and hope they don't get damaged or lost before he can use them. The Blu mobile charger is shaped like an analog cigarette pack, so it can hold two batteries and four carts while charging one of the batteries.

Also, Volt's little portable charger gizmo that allows a person to simultaneously charge and carry around 2 cigs has already broken. The little part that swivels up and down, where the battery screws in, fell apart and there are now exposed wires. I've had to put in a ticket to see if they'll replace it or not.

Just as a side note, after my experience with Blu's awful customer service, I was relieved to see all of the positive comments and reviews about Volt's excellent, courteous and responsive customer service. So far, my own experience with them has not been as dazzling. My order was delayed for almost 3 days, stuck in "processing" mode, because apparently they were out of stock of one of the items in the starter kit. I could not figure out why the order was taking so long to process, especially considering the charge already went through, so I sent a ticket early in the morning before work to ask what was going on. The response I got at the end of the business day was something to the effect of, "Oh, I was going to call you about that..." Once I specified an alternative choice for the item in question, the shipping was VERY fast, just like everyone has said. I really wonder how long it would have taken them to contact me to clear that up had I not initiated the ticket.

At this point, I am seriously considering buying the V2 starter kit to see if their batteries last any longer than Blu, but have better tasting flavors than Volt. They seem to have all of the bells and whistles that my dad wants, such as carrying cases and mobile charging cases that have room for batteries AND carts, a car charger, tons of flavors, different battery sizes, etc etc.

I know serious vapers out there seem to frown on Blu and V2, but I'm not sure what choice I have since the size and shape of the e-cig matters a lot to my dad, as well as flavors and accessories. The size and shape preference rules out many of the better-reviewed e-cigs right off the bat.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A quick thought since 'price doesn't matter much' Have you considered getting a few different disposables from several different brands? I've gotten disposables from Apollo, WhiteCloud, BullSmoke, and a couple others. It may help your dad with the 'taste' factor, so that he can find one he likes before you go all out and buy an entire kit of a flavor he doesn't like much.

Bullsmoke I hear is pretty good for people that are/were heavy smokers and like Marlboro Reds and the like.
You'll probably still have the battery charging problem, but if all else fails? Buy him a 20-pack or so of the disposables in a flavor he likes until you can find a kit that works.

:D
