Check out the thread on the njoy king. It is not last years model. Vastly superior. Amazing, in fact. But at $8 ea for a disposable, priced too high to be affordable.

Ha ha! I have barely ventured out of the New Members Forum and when I did, there were so many acronyms that I thought I was reading Chinese! LOL I'll catch on eventually. :)

You know, Jimmy_Noname, this process would probably have been a heck of a lot easier for me if I were actually a smoker, lol. You're lucky in that you can try everything out first-hand and then recommend what you know to be good stuff.

...The only reason he tried vaping again was because I went ahead and just bought a starter kit without asking him, so he couldn't say no. (He felt compelled to use something that I spent my hard-earned money on, lol.)

Many people have commented that needing a cig-a-like really limits a person as far as quality and flavor. I really see now what they were talking about. But, I also understand my dad's preference for the look a feel of an analog. Old habits are hard to break.

It's true, a lot of the habit of smoking is more than just nicotine; oral fixation, hand fixation, hand to mouth muscle memory, and a laundry list of other contributing factors. But you've certainly come to the right place, as virtually everybody on this forum is an ex-smoker, we all have the experience that you are looking for.

And I might just mail a starter kit to my parents so they can't say no lol.

60 years!! Well, sir, that is very encouraging to hear! Thank you very much for that. My dad was a senior mechanical assembler for most of his life, so he likes all of the gizmos. It just comes down to a battery that will last, combined with good flavor and preserving the traditional smoking experience for him. And the experiment continues...

This makes me think he would appreciate the sheer simplicity of a mechanical, without a doubt he would understand the function, they are so so very simple. They are usually bigger, heavier, etc... but honestly his curiosity may get the better of him. When you go to a shop ask if they have any, have soemone who knows what they are talkign about take one apart completely and explain it to him. Trust me, this may be easier than you think and in my honest opinion mechs are the ONLY way to vape. Superior flavor, TH, (at least with RBAs, that is a bit advanced but mechs can with with simple cartos and such too.) durable, long lasting, simple to operate and troubleshoot if needed. Just try it, it can't hurt. Once I appealed to my dad with something that interested him he was all in on vaping.

my cousin was a big smoker for years. He bought a vapor king storm and loves it, likes it more then his cigs and thats all he smokes now. Its bigger in size and doesnt like a cig, but its awesome. I tried those blu e cigs and thought they sucked, when i tried his I loved it, so much I might be buying one on monday. He had cherry flavor in his and it was so so good.

Yes, logically I thought the same about the whole mechanical angle. Apparently, after a discussion with my dad today, he is dead set against trying anything new for a while. I think I gave him too much, too soon. I may secretly order one or two more sets of something, and maybe even one of the non-cigalikes and spring those on him at a later time.

I think it's too much change at one time for him. Can't say as I blame him!

What is extra funny to me, is that today he told me he still likes Blu the best, even though their batteries are the worst and the charger takes FOREVER to recharge, because they are the most like analog cigarettes.

I sure wish somebody with money would get smart and invest in some serious cig-a-like technology. They can make batteries that power entire computers that last for a couple of days, they could figure out how to make a cig-a-like last also. What I don't understand is what is stopping big tobacco from jumping into this industry head first? They could make GAZILLIONS of dollars if only they put their pocketbook behind vaping. It's as if they want to hinder progress. Makes no sense to me. And this concludes my rant of the day.

Do it!!! I would love to hear their thoughts on vaping. BTW, how's the weather in Monterey? It's boiling in San Jo and it's only gonna get hotter this week.

Another option is a kit off Groupon.
That's what got me started.
My girlfriend bought the South Beach one for $24.
It included two 808 bats & 15 tobacco cartos.
Even had a hard carry case & car charger.
V2 had a similar kit on Groupon recently, for around the same price.
Eversmoke sells a good entry level Groupon kit too.
Same company as South Beach, just nicer looking batteries.

I would stay away from companies like Bull Smoke, Victory & such.
They sell their kit on Groupon or give them away for free.
When you register for the kit.
You're auto enrolled in an overpriced refill scam.
I would check out Spinfuel for a list of shady vendors.
Would be nice if they had a blacklist here on the forum.

My friend's dad wanted to quit and my friend kept asking me which look-a-like to buy. I kept telling him to ignore the reviews and the hype and the slick marketing and the poor quality/early failure kit.
In the end, I recommended a Vision Crystal (mini ego) and Clearomiser. He didn't like the whole filling business (bad eyesight) so he uses prefilled 510 cartos. Seems to be doing OK.

I enjoyed your post, very much and wish you and him all the best.

eRoll. Awesome PCC, great cig-a-like form factor especially in white, super easy to use and very durable. I got two sets in January. Still on my first batt, second kit isn't even opened. My egos and mods have been gathering dust ever since. Has its own sub forum here now, check it out.

although I don't have an eroll (I want one :)), people seem to love them. I know a hard core reo lover who loves his eroll! that is what made me want one!

I've been vaping for a little over 2 years. I started with a joye 510 (cig a like type). I still use them most of the time. I also have an ego which I use to drip with when I'm playing on the computer. and I do have a mod. I have tons of 510 batteries so I am sticking with them until I'm out. but, if they did not work for me I would not be using them. I'm just saying that not everyone needs a bigger device.
also, you guys need to check out this forum:

Location Specific

find your area and see if there might be a meet coming up. there is nothing like a meet to help newbies and you get to see all kinds of devices! if no meet coming up maybe they can help you find a b&m to visit.

It is absolutely wonderful that you are helping your dad transition to vaping. You mentioned that he still prefers the blu and liked their flavors. Be sure to check out Johnson Creek website as they make the juice for the Blu. Although it was a special blend just for Blu, on the forums there are discussions about which other JC flavors are similar. Also most disposable cartridges ( technically cartomizer) can actually be refilled a few times by pooing off the plastic or rubber tip. There are also many easy to fill clear cartos that will fit the smaller cigalikes. I wish you both the best.

That's pretty awesome you got your dad vaping Owl! For me it was the exact opposite, He started vaping before me. He had ordered the V2 kit and I was going to do the same until I stopped by a local b&m vape shop. I walked out with the eGo-C starter kit and a couple bottles of juice. I don't think I'll be getting the V2 like my old man and I think if he sees my eGo then he may switch over to the dark side! Yes the eGo would definately be a step up with maintenance and upkeep but it is customizable to one's liking and the best part is that your not limited to cartomizers and filling its "tank" is a breeze!
Yes the eGo is not a cig-a-like but it's not obnoxiously huge either. It's pretty much the same length as a sharpie pen but it is a bit bigger in circumference.
But then again I'm very new to this myself so results may vary!!
Best of luck to you and your dad!!

The eRoll uses ego-c type a atomizers. Same virtues as described above except more time between charges (1000mah) PCC and the size of a cig, not a sharpie.

Thought I'd chime in here. My wife is the same way, has to be like an analog. Tried to find the closest thing and so far this has been it. Bought here the volcano. 90 mah battery(2) with a pcc that charges them when she is at work. The batteries are small enough to mimic the analogs. But heres the kicker: bought her 20 soft cartos. Only place online I have found them so far is le cig. its a cartomizer that has a soft spongy wrap around it. The downside is that it holds far less juice, hence I need to have about 3 filled for her before she goes to work. The upside is that the carto feels very close to an analog: you can bite down on it a bit, it has a paper wrap around the spongy stuff that simulates paper on a filter, it even sticks to your lips like a real filter does. bewtween the soft carto and the smaller battery with the pcc that looks like a pack of smokes, it is the closest I have come to an analog. Juice, however, is another matter.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. Im working with my brother in law to make a change to vaping.. Its going to take him small steps. He is interested. I think he is waiting to see if its going to work for me.

I think it's all about trial and error. I won't know what really works for my dad until he tries it, you know? I just ordered a Volt X2 Battery Passthrough (900mAh) for him to try out. It's much larger than what he is used to, but like several people suggested, I'm going to spring it on him and tell him he can just try it out at home. That way, he won't feel any pressure hopefully. And maybe he'll fall in love with it and use it all the time!!
