Is this a series? What network? It sounds good.
BTW Seanchai....I totally thought your avi was a pic of you too. Now I can't picture you as anyone but that person. I'm obviously not up on my Dr. Who....

 I'm okay with being pictured as the great David Tennant. He's much funnier than I am, for starters.

Today is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, so there was a big 50th anniversary episode (it'll be reairing on BBC America for the next several days, it's called "The Day of the Doctor") with *all* the Doctors in it and a plotline chock full of 50 years of the show's history. It was really well done and possibly a good starting point for interested parties.

If you want a more straightforward episode to start with, check out "The Next Doctor" - it's a steampunk-y Christmas episode with just David Tennant, but you don't need any previous Who knowledge to understand what's going on. That's the one I usually show to people who have never seen Doctor Who.

An Adventure in Space and Time was a docudrama the BBC did in celebration of the 50th anniversary, and it tells the story of how Doctor Who got greenlighted in the first place. (The short answer is "with great difficulty" because the BBC didn't want to make a sci fi show, and "only thanks to the first female producer in television, who really believed in the idea of a sci-fi show that the whole family could watch.") They really got all the details right, from casting to lighting... it feels like you're just a fly on the wall, watching them struggle to make a show that almost no one believed in and that was something completely new.

Without Doctor Who, there probably wouldn't have been Star Trek, or anything that came after it. Doctor Who was the show that proved sci-fi could work on tv... and it's still around, still telling the story of a mad man with a flying blue box, who'll (usually) use only his brain to win a fight with the baddies, who can change his face, and who can travel anywhere in space or time.

If I would win a VTR I would definitely send it your way.....too heavy for me, and very masculine.
Yeah, Debbie Gibson was a singer, no? The older guy was on X Files years ago. This is the land of obscure actors, singers, etc. so sad.....

Yup, almost feel like I'm compensatin' for something regardin' the VTR ;) Somethin' like "the bigger the toys....." :)

Luv Doctor Who...

We went through all that were on Netflix in pretty short order, need to look and see if more are available :)

I wonder if they will talk about the initial findings from the Greek/Italian study being done on Heart Cells. The vape Team released some info about this on their YouTube channel. Basically initial results are showing that Vapor isn't toxic to heart cells. The results from the cig smoke are kinda mind blowing. The 50% solution from the smoke killed 97% of the heart cells. Here is a link if you want to watch it

PS - Meant to say I wonder if they will mention any of this on Mod Envy.

For a shorter easier to understand version watch the first 3 min then from about 22:30 to the end.

If there aren't more already, there will be very shortly, between today and the Christmas episode coming up. (Regeneration time!)

We had a lot of fun watchin' those, me, my daughters and my better half, made it a point to get through them before my youngest left for NY :)

I am looking forward to mod envy tonight too. I missed it last week. I caught it the 2 previous weeks. I would be happy if I won anything mod juice whatever. Of course winning a mod would be better. Oh and sorry Dusty but if I won a VTR I'd be keeping it.

lol, well, I can't say that I blame you on that! :D

Awww, that's sweet! Yes, both her and Tiffany were singers, well kinda like 1 hit wonders. The older guy yup, Mitch Pelligi or something like that. The worst part is that most of them can't act worth a damn and they make more for one terrible movie then we make in 5 years or more!

I remembered watching some Tom Baker/Peter Davison era Old Who when I was a kid and enjoying it, but then PBS stopped showing it and I forgot about it. Didn't rediscover it till the Tennant era, at which point I sat my sci-fi hating mom down and said, "watch this one episode and if you don't like it, I'll never make you watch it again." She sat with her arms folded for the first five minutes or so. When it was over, she said, "So how much are the box sets?" :D

We're going to see the 50th anniversary ep in 3D Monday night. I was going to skip it - this next month or so is going to be pretty tight financially - but mom wouldn't hear of it. "It's Doctor Who in the *movie theater.* Shut up, we're going."

Proof that Doctor Who is for everyone. :)
