I'm about to start my prep. I've got to run out to pick up a couple things first, though. Like Sage. Every year I have a hard time finding Sage. But WHY!? What is Thanksgiving without Sage and why do grocery stores NOT stock up on it?! So frustrating!
Quite a few years ago and one Thanksgiving too many of running around trying to find fresh sage on the Wednesday, I decided to start growing sage and rosemary in my front yard. Nowadays, we have a full garden... but that's how we started. I just came back from clipping more out of the garden to do some stuffed mushrooms with.
We almost never have visitors, but today the doorbell has been ringing nonstop... "Do you have any herbs in your garden?" "The sage is right over there, rosemary is the bush by the sidewalk, here's some scissors." "Oh, great, I can borrow some?" "Nah, you can have some, I don't want it back after you're through with it!"
If you don't have a yard, most herbs (including sage and rosemary) do fine in pots on the windowsill. Just don't overwater them and make sure they can drain very well - a thin layer of rocks in the bottom of the pot before you add the soil usually does the trick.
Won't help you for this year, but keep it in mind for next!
