I was born at Ft. Eustis Army Hospital!!....just threw that in there because I've never heard it mentioned ever before in my whole life!! I just put Williamsburg, Va. as my birth city though. :)

When I worked with Mohawks they were in Camp Humphries, Stuttgart Army Airfield, Fort Huachuca and Camp Wainwright. There were a couple at Fort Eustis and Fort Hood, too.

It's commonly known as Fort Useless but, since you were born there, I've developed a whole new level of respect for it.

dang... wow!

Actually it was a good thing amid all the bad things.
It got me out of the midwest, where I would have always lived if I hadn't
moved to Colorado, and it opened my eyes to a different world. My family
was amazed I continued to live out there, and didn't move back 'home'
after my husband died. My brother had told me I could move in with him
if I wanted to move back to Indiana. But I stayed out there and continued
to live in the southwest until hubby #2 decided we're moving to Missouri.
While the midwest has it's good sides, and Missouri is not a bad state at all,
I grew ties to the southwest and mountains, etc.

About 11 years ago, my 'then new' spouse took me down to Williamsburg so I could see where my first home was. William and Mary college put my folks and me up in a dorm room there right after my birth. We lived there for 6 months. They had a mattress on the floor and probably a table with a couple chairs. My mom always told me how quaint Williamsburg was so I was really happy to see it. Well, my spouse is an engineer for the DOD, Army, and at the time was actually working as a civilian for the Navy so he knew where Ft. Eustis was and drove me down there. Of course, this was right after we had gone to war and there was no way we could get past the gate outpost, at least I couldn't...maybe he could have with his clearance...but I at least got to see the area of my birth. It's beautiful down there. It had always been a life long goal of mine to return to my birthplace. Who knew that I....a South Dakota girl.....would marry a Philly dude and end up finally getting to make that trip to Va. Coincidentally, my son and his wife just happened to be in grad school at VCU in Richmond. We went down there to help them move into their place and the side trip to Williamsburg was a surprise for me on our way home. Good memories that trip!!

Ft Useless ;) that's where I did my AIT :)

It's crazy the twists and turns life takes. I was a midwest girl too, thinking I'd never leave So. Dak. ever! My sister married a guy in Kansas City and my mother decided we should all follow her there and move there....so we did. I lived there for 12 years before moving out to NJ and now I think, wow...the circumstances that led to my living on an island off the coast of Jersey are all so unexpected. Bad stuff happened along the way, that in turn opened doors to really good stuff....and like you....if my spouse would precede me in death....I would still call the Jersey shore my home, even though all of my family is in the midwest. This is home to me now and I could never have seen it happening 25 years ago. And....I love the southwest too! I can totally understand your attachment to it. :)
