Morning all. Nice vid, Sam, and very true. I'll see you that and raise you a slightly more optimistic "what do we do about it?" rebuttal from my favorite education pundit:
Going to see if I can catch some more sleep.
morning Sean, hope you're feeling better and you get that rest!
that was just a snapshot of JTG. here's an awesome set of vids. it does ramble a bit, cuz John was to have a stroke soon after. ever though it's 6 hours or more, it's a fascinating look at the history and purpose of education. i do not see any conflict between this and the video that you posted! NONE!
i am pessimistic about the schools, but not about education. i don't understand people. now, granted, i spent a lot of time in the library, when i was younger. A LOT of time! thus, i like learning. i just may not like learning what everybody else does. our education system plus the "bread and circuses" nature of the entertainment system that we have, is by design. it is meant to destroy creativity in the collective and foster it only in a few.
i don't see why people accept that. unplug your cable, shut off the radio and stop watching professional sports! it's OK to be entertained, but why not make education entertaining? why not consider it entertaining? i send or give really good videos to a lot of people. the response is usually the same, "but...it's 90 minutes long! how do you expect me to sit through it?" in fact, i was talking to a gal last week who asked me to marry her in the past. i turned her down mainly because she doesn't understand my quest for knowledge. when she asked how she could possibly spend 80 minutes watching a video that had some really beneficial information in it, i knew how to respond. she loves Tyler Perry. how long are Tyler Perry movies? 90 minutes, right? why is it that 90 minutes of stupidity is more important than learning how to improve your health?
she has a vitamin D deficiency. that plus, she wears a hijab, so her sun exposure is very limited. the video explains how vitamin K2 aids in the processing of vitamin D. she WANTS to know this information, she feels she NEEDS to know this information, BUT, 80 minutes just seems like too much "work"!

luckily, there's a 14 minute version. i told her watch that a few times and maybe eventually she'd want to see the rest of it.
we place our values on the wrong stuff! it's time to unplug! don't get me wrong, i have lots of dvds and cds. i just happen to have a good portion of those that are lectures. people are shocked when they see my books. heck, those are just the ones from the last 9 years. i have more back home! there's an "art" to education. we need to develop that.
oh crap, i;ll just get off the soapbox for now. here's the 1st vid:
