Tucson, it's a dry heat
I'm here, fell behind, but here!

I've been vapemeeting and dipping my toe in the dating world (yeah, that sucked) this weekend. Loving the DIY - I made my second bottle of MBV's Hazelnut Spread today. I love DIY-ing more than rebuilding, but my rebuilt pile o'heads is getting scarce. I'm gonna have to do some rebuilding next week.

Anyone know if you can use 28 Kanthal on EVOD heads (instead of 32?) One thing I noticed is that my first batch of rebuilt heads burn out (coils pop) when I try to dry-burn them.

There you are girly!!! We've been missing you!! How's the DIY going? I think I will start ordering the ingredients to start my own DIY. Til then I'm just mixing juices together in a tank. Today's experiment was graham cracker, vanilla custard, and a bit of whipped cream....my go to flavors go great together!!!

I wanted to let you all know that AKA Vapers has Davide and Davide Mini glassomizers on sale. They're the cheapest I've found without a discount, but with the discount they're $10.78 each. Code is "10off" and runs till midnight, PST I'm sure, since they're in L.A..

Ah oh, off topic again!!! Think fast, think fast....uh....MOO juice!

Whew, that was a close one.....

i dunno about other ppl, but this really rankles me. is it some great travesty to go off topic? i mean, people DO talk about different topics when they get together. i don't "get" the anti-having fun attitude around here sometimes.

Geeze, if it's off topic you can figure it out in 2 seconds. Is scrolling down really that hard for some people?

Dusty, I just got this passthrough last week and am really liking it. It is more the size of a regular ego twist so not quite to small as some of the others I see out there. Here's the link....oh....and I love using it to vape my MBV e-juices!!! :p
Joyetech Joye eGo USB Passthrough/650mAh Battery

ON TOPIC - I have a little clearo on a new little passthough I got and had only about 1/2 of the tank left and decided to be a little daring, I had Ecto Cooler in it and love that stuff, but I decided that I wanted to switch flavors and being lazy today, I didn't want to vape any of the other tanks or clearos that I already have juice in and didn't want what was already in them so I just filled the rest of the clearo up with the Faux Hawk, ummmm, OMG, great combo for me, I wouldn't be able to vape it all day I don't think but what a treat for my taste buds, want to talk about a wake up call for them! :p

OFF TOPIC - I got one of those passtohroughs from ohhh the dread of the thought from another vendor as MBV was out of them, so I just wanted to get one to try on the laptop and I opened the package I almost fell out of my chair, I was like, you got to be kidding me, my Evod is like 25% bigger but dang this little thing puts out, it's got 4 voltage settings, however the one issue with this I can see is that the cord would be very easy to come lose from the unit, gonna put some silicone around the base or maybe come super-glue to keep it from pulling out, oh wait the other issue with it is, it's like this thing is so small it's hard to get used to the feel and finding the darn button, I keep putting my finger on the Evod... lol But so far it works great.... Still going to get an SVD eventually and another passthru

I still haven't started rebuilding.
When I do I plan on using wire as close to stock as possible.
I like how well the stock coils work so I'll use as similar wire to try to achieve the closest copy possible.

Folks say cotton tastes better so I'll consider changing wicks.
What gauge wire do the videos say the stock evods use?

The videos say to use 32 - but that's thinner than 28, I think?? I was hoping with a little bit thicker wire maybe it wouldn't pop when I dryburn it. I have 28 in addition to 32, just thought maybe it might work.

Did y'all notice that even BACON is sold out at MBV? Outage indeed!

I think most stock wire for the common clearos are 32. That's what I'm using.

I haven't tried Banana Nut Bread, but Bananas Gone Nuts is AMAZING!

I'll second that appraisal of BGN. Someone much earlier in this thread told me that one is their original BNB recipe and one is the "new and improved" recipe. Can't remember which is meant to be which, and I've never tried the plain banana nut bread... wait, I just used my google-fu to find this: https://www.facebook.com/mtbakervapor/posts/523111537723855 BGN is the "classic recipe". So there ya have it.

Sooo I filled up with unsteeped Peanut Butter and it was kind of terrible. Like the peanut butter in a stale Reece's. I thought maybe I can save it. Added about half Whipped Cream to it (hadn't even tried Whipped Cream alone yet) and OMG. I can still taste the stale peanut butter, but the Whipped Cream is amazing. The cats go nuts for whipped cream, sitting here in bed vaping, expecting five little meows at the door at any moment.

I use 32g with a 4/5 wrap and I've never had a coil pop so I dunno. Are you letting it get too hot? When dry burning I never let it glow for more than 2 seconds and I blow air on it from about a foot away (I've never had one pop, but when I finally do I don't want it popping in my face).

Ah oh, off topic again!!! Think fast, think fast....uh....MOO JUICE!

Whew, that was a close one.....

holy crap! (i'm not swearing, just quoting Frank Barone ;) ), i thought it was just the minis. that's a good deal!

Dusty, I just got this passthrough last week and am really liking it. It is more the size of a regular ego twist so not quite to small as some of the others I see out there. Here's the link....oh....and I love using it to vape my MBV e-juices!!!

i know i sound like a nag (nag, nag, nag, nag ,nag...oops, sorry. litle Joan Jett there), (oh, i mean in other threads) but for a sweet pass-through:

Itaste VV/VW 3.0 by Innokin - NettMix Custom Vapes

i've got 4 now, and i've had a chance to observe their performance: while smoking MBV juices exclusively, the following is the puff count for certain tanks:

evod - 550 puffs before battery goes into red (OK, these have had other juices in them too)

mini davide 500 puffs before battery goes into red

protank, davide 450 puffs before battery goes into red (ymmv. and kids: please don't try this at home)

on a sad note, i ordered my 1st 30mil bottled of Root Beer (since i got it as a freebie). i got it with no extra shots as i wanted to vape it right away. it's been 12 days and it still doesn't taste like root beer. it doesn't taste bad, just no flavor yet...
i tried my sample at 3 days and it was like root beer barrel candy. i left it for about 10 days and the "candy" test left and it was straight up root beer! in a protank, it became my 2nd favorite vape. now, i'd love even the candy taste!

on the other hand, i finished up a 50mil of dulce de leche and cracked open my new 30 mil today. sweeeeeet! still my most favorite.

my moo juice is is pretty nice too.

candy cane freebie with a drop or 2 of menthol flavor is pretty good.

and my hazel nutcoffee (which i got with 5 extra shots  ) is finally steeped out. little lite on the hazelnut, but mad coffee flavor. ( i sense some hazelnut flavoring in the near future...) i'm tempted to add a bit of whipped cream and caramel candy.

i just want my root beer back! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! (sorry, there's no crying smiley) (but, erm, would it be a smiley if it was crying? :?:

Thanks roonies, I have that bookmarked, I had also seen one that is 900 mah, forget the brand, think it is also a Joyetech, I'll get another one after I get resupplied with some of the other important things like all the darn juice you guys keep bring up and I keep trying and liking them, I think I need to stop trying them altogether as I have only gotten like 2 that I am not overly fond of and am running out of some of my favorites, plus I also want to get and SVD. :vapor::)

Are you heating the wire before coiling?
That might lose strength along with springiness.
I'm no expert in metalurgy but I understand that heat changes metals' properties.
I'd say make a coil without heating the wire first, use it then see if it'll stand a dry burn better.
Heating it before coiling it might take the strength out.
Heating it while already coiled might keep it's strength since it was still strong before heating.

You follow me through that idea?

Sold out of bacon flavor even. They're starting to sound like Wizard Labs now.

My coil/strength idea looks incomplete so...

by heating it before coiling -
The same thing that makes it easier to coil might also be weakening it.
It works in it's weakened state but is susceptible to overheating ie: dry-burn

by coiling before heating -
It is in it's final form before applying heat so even though it's being weakened by heat it's not being stressed by coiling.

That make more sense?

You can use 28 to rebuild your coils, although it might be worth trying 30 gauge first. You will need more wraps to achieve the same resistance, and/or a larger diameter coil. You are right that the thicker gauge will be less likely to pop when dry burning. :)

EDIT: I always heat the Kanthal before wrapping a coil myself, FWIW. :2c:

just ordered 90 bucks of juice off this site. would have cost me triple elsewhere. cant wait, too bad most of the tasty sounding flavors were out of stock. shipped the same day and it is a sunday!!!!

Let us all know what you think? plus ask about your flavors what need to steep also,
because some of them really need time to get good result on flavor.
