Depends how big they are, which is probably the reason for the runaround. For the record, with as many attacks as Dusty's had, most docs I know would say "forget it" and just remove it laproscopically at this point (i.e. with a camera and very long handled tools... total of three tiny scars that heal in about a week). So I'm not in any way *condoning* the runaround, but that's probably why they're doing it... to decide between ultrasound (cheaper and less invasive) vs. the laproscopy (more invasive, more expensive, but a permanent and immediate solution). Hope you get it sorted soon, Dusty!

(I am not a doctor, btw, just a long time medical geek who has guided/taken care of every single family member I have through the gallstones thing... I'm the only one left who still has my gallbladder, and I suspect mine'll be gone in a year or two, since I've had previews of coming attractions, so to speak.)

thanks sean, i wasn't sure if they could do gallstones ultrasonically or not. apparently they can in some cases :)

i think they can do it ultrasonically. they break them up into tiny pieces and they pass. no operation necessary. at least i hope i am right.

That's for kidney stones, not gallstones. All I know is I just want this to go away period! It's one of the most uncomfortable feelings, can't get comfortable in anyway when an attack comes on, and they come out of nowhere, and it causes pain in the back and up through the shoulder blades. What gets me the most is the just matter of fact manner in which they tell you well you can just live with it, yeah, I could have lived with the damn knife sticking out of my leg as well but I pulled it out. Dumbasses....

oh sorry dusty, just scrolled back a page and saw you have gall stones, not kidney stones. yes they will take your gall bladder out, but i think they do it outpatient now and it involves a very small incision. :) you will be fine.

Yeah, it would just more then likely be a laparoscopy that would need to be done, 3 incisions. But these people I have been dealing with are .......

Thanks, yeah, I am tired of the run around, hell if I had the right meds, I'd do the damn thing myself!

oh ffs, dusty....now i read back another page and saw your long post about the gall bladder problems and the ...... at the hospital. so sorry, dear. i should read every page before i comment. not to worry tho, i know everything will be fine. hugs.

Thank you sweetie, it'll get taken care of eventually and it just might get to a point where I have to make them do it. lol This could have all been over and done with and would have healed in a very short period of time.

Dusty- That's a tough road to go down. I hope your next trip in they will get on it and get you some relief.

Thanks Gary, I am just waiting now on my next appointment, but was told they won't do it until they know what the size of them are and how many, which cannot be done until I have another major attack, seems stupid as hell to me as they are the idiots that diagnosed it to begin with, I'll probably go to the Hospital next door to them as I don't have alot of faith in that one anymore! lol They could have taken care of it right then and there in the first place.

I'm trying understand....why do they need to know how many n the size (of the stones) to remove it?
A few years ago I suffered with a decent size ulcer and colitous at the same time...they shot something in me to
make the gallbladder work and laid me up under some machine to monitor it.
Turns out it was fine....then, I had to fight the doctor, who wanted to take it anyway!!
Uh, no...if it works u can't take it out!
But, they eventually found the source of my trouble.

Nope, they are Gallstones, need to remove the Gallbladder.

I used to help design and build dye laser circulators for Candela Laser when they were still builing the Co.

I know one of the applications among many is "zapping" kidney stones.

Can gallstones be laser "zapped" or is cutting necessary?

Vaping yellowcake at 4000 Kelvin. How many watts is that? ;)
