I know what you mean. I had a case I worked with at school and home. Most of her issues were environmental (she graduated services a few months ago...a changed kid with a changed family...I am still so proud) but she had a tendency towards melodrama, more so than your average 7 year old. So I showed up to work with her and she was so out of it. She was literally gray. Her mother, the school, everyone said she was making it up and attributed her non-compliance to her usual bad behavior. Plus they were obsessed with attendance. Kids with head injuries on the playground and not even a phone call home kind of obsessed. So I went in and demanded they take her temperature. She had over 103 fever and it turned out to be pneumonia. I don't know about where you are but here attendance factors into a school's rating so they drag the kids in when they are sick only to have them spread their little germs and infect everyone else. It was infuriating, working with the public school system.

Last I heard it factored into their pay. If kids don't show up, the school doesn't get paid for them that day.

cocoon of lunacy
We got an inch and a half of snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's 30° out!!!!!!!!! The sun is shining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily he went to work with his dad today, and also got to the orthodontist.
I mean we can get out fine, what's the deal???????????????

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

around here if they cancel too many days of school for that type of thing, ppl get real upset. in most households, both parents work and they have to find something to do with their kids. maybe you should get a group of parental units together and complain.

I grew up with lhasas and shih-tzus. I prefer larger dogs but that breed will always have a special place in my heart. I don't know how I would've gotten through my childhood without them. 18 years is a good, long life even for a little pooch. I'm glad you had so much time with her.

EXACTLY.
It's all about their daily attendance if they get paid or not. My kid in grade school had
a bad year one time, where he was pretty sick and caught a lot of stuff. I did everything
right - called the school, got homework, sent notes. Then I got a generic letter from the
school threatening to arrest me for........I forget the term but basically for my kid not
going to school. I came unglued. They got a seven page typed letter - everyone. Since
no one signed it, I sent copies to the principal, school board, superintendent. It had
my phone number, address, email. Begged them to set up an appointment with me.
No one bothered to respond. I keep notes of everything - why he's sick, dates, times
I call the school, who I talk to at the school, what that person said, and copies of the
excuse notes. No problems at high school level thank goodness.

I tell ya ... leave a faucet running (just needs to be a dribble) overnight to keep the water running through the pipes and then they won't burst. Got me through many a cold winters growing up in Buffalo.

Now that I live in Florida I sometimes leave the water running just for old times sake.

Last I heard it factored into their pay. If kids don't show up, the school doesn't get paid for them that day.

I don't know that but I believe it. The system is ...-backwards. They had HUGE funding cuts and lost a bunch of their aides and lunch supervisors. As a result of such poor staffing, the kids were crammed into the lunch room and out of control all the time. I caught a kid about to take his belt off and whip another. Bare in mind I was part of an outside agency, there only to work with MY kid, but since no one else was stopping it...I had to. Then they would get mad and force the entire classes to spend their entire recess sitting on the ground as punishment for their general out-of-controlness. Then they'd have all this pent up energy and it would just be an endless cycle. And the issue was SUPERVISION. They never engaged the kids. Just sent them onto the bare as bones playground and let them do whatever. So...no activities, no supervision. Bad behavior. For which these little kids were not really at fault. Yet they were punished.
