I had this problem too. My kid was getting bullied on the bus and I kept trying to get something done about it. I supported and empowered the mother to write letters, hold meetings, do whatever is necessary. They kept ignoring us. One day it culminated in her literally being stomped on the ground by the two siblings who were bullying her. I was just out of my mind angry. I got the mom on the phone and together we called for a meeting for which the school board, principal and bus company was FINALLY present. Along with a community action committee we got involved. It took that much violence for her to be heard. Now it's different. They have hired parents to help with the supervision on buses and playgrounds. But most parents don't know enough to know what kind of change they can effect in school. And the schools themselves make it really difficult. I'm just grateful I was able to do my small part.

if you have a chance, watch all 5 parts of this. it'a a little wobblt cuz it was right before John had a stroke

You're too sweet (haha if you're serious...I'm never really sure about this place!) :) But I'm no mooch! But I am curious as to how you go about doing that? Is that a benefit of being verified?

Ask dusty about unattended space heaters

I agree completely, I know it's dangerous. But I live alone, and I do not leave it on unless I am here .. and again, these temps come in spurts, so it's not every day. There is also a smoke alarm down there (an idea given to me by a fireman friend).
I don't recommend doing this unless you can keep a rigid schedule and never forget you've got it on.

Kudos for you. He was in 8th grade and about to leave the school district
so I didn't want to push it harder. I just wanted him out of there.
He is an above average student and scores far far above the national
averages on the state testings. It was soooooooooo ridiculous.
The letter they sent me was so insulting. Same type of letter they send
the dead beat parents who don't make their kids go to school. I was
in constant contact with the school system.

There ARE safer space heaters. Hubby is an electrician/plumber and has a number
of small space heaters that will shut off if tipped or knocked over, and will shut
off if overheated, etc. Nothing is completely safe, and there are no guarantees of course.

Yeah they get it wrong an awful lot. Never put the time and energy where it needs to be. Good parents getting harangued by the school while the kids whose parents need a lot more than a letter go unnoticed and their needs unaddressed. I'm a bit jaded. And the staff...god. I had to report one lunch aide for physically and verbally threatening a kindergartener with a behavioral disorder who was acting out. And I wasn't the first, not by a long shot. She still didn't get fired though.

It sounds like you've got a good kid. So kudos to YOU.

Oh yes -- no open coils, forced air, tip over d/c ... plugged into a GFCI outlet. I am not licensed but know electricity fairly well.

We are extremely proud of him and he is an excellent kid and student.
I hope the trend stays with him as he goes on through life.
But no one wants him back in school more than I do right now - ha.
