Yeah they get it wrong an awful lot. Never put the time and energy where it needs to be. Good parents getting harangued by the school while the kids whose parents need a lot more than a letter go unnoticed and their needs unaddressed. I'm a bit jaded. And the staff...god. I had to report one lunch aide for physically and verbally threatening a kindergartener with a behavioral disorder who was acting out. And I wasn't the first, not by a long shot. She still didn't get fired though.

It sounds like you've got a good kid. So kudos to YOU.

The school threatened my wife once. I showed up with her the next day. Yeah, they don't do that anymore. I went overboard.. A little. Perhaps with the "I'm okay with six months in jail, are you okay with six months in the hospital?", but they got the message.

Makes the news here a few times a year - surrounding schools.
Parent goes into the school and supposedly threatens them, then
he or she is arrested. I always wonder what moronic thing the
school system did now to push that parent to anger.

The sad part is, it's not just the parents. They're harassing & threatening the children too. Trying to mold them into 'good little slaves'. I would never send my children to the public school system. Home schooling is a much better option & nearly effortless these days.

And it doesn't stop with the entire public school system.

Nope, although that's what I think of every time some politician says they're doing it "for the children". I was one of those children, the first half of my public school life was hell and the schools haven't improved since then.

I think, at least here, it's not so much that the law is on their side and the law doesn't care about them one way or the other. So they do as they please.

The simple remedy for school bullying to be prevented if you can find one and afford it. Is martial arts.
Let your children lear skilled self defense.
But not some wus school one where they learn technique annd get to do some sparring.

I have to second this. Especially if you find a place that teaches the principles as well as the physical skill. I took tae kwon do as an adolescent. It changed my life. Not so much socially, I was never bullied, but emotionally.

But then that child is 'just violent'. We can't have that now, can we? It's not appropriate for someone to defend themselves.

Yup. The campus cop was in the office when I said it, but when he pulled out his handcuffs to arrest both myself and the principal, the principal had second thoughts. You can do or say what you want to me, but my family? heh. Call me old fashioned, but as a Husband one of my job's is protector. I take it seriously.

The only bullying mine ever encountered was in grade school.
He was worried about getting in trouble but I assured him he'd
be fine with me. One kid he grabbed by the throat after making
sure no one was looking and shoved him in a locker, telling him to
knock it off. There are video cameras but apparently no one ever
saw it. The other instance he was pretty little, and my husband went
to the kid's house and told his mother that if she didn't do something
about it we would. That was the end of that.

My parents were part of the problem. First time parents, I grew really fast. I was twice as tall and fit as the other kids. My mother used to say "You can't hit back, you'll really hurt someone." So I didn't until 6th grade and the kid was bigger than me. Turns out, she was right. Pent up rage I guess. The teachers just pretended it wasn't happening. My 2nd grade teacher thought it was funny. Old hag was abusive to a lot of us though. I waited 10 years before going to college because of my school experiences, but when I finally did go it was completely different.

And that's nothing. Girls are even worse. I had a friend with a birthmark that covered half her face. It was really, really bad for her.
