Pay attention to what HzG8rGrl said. Some meters also have a button to calibrate for Prob resistance, to zero out the probs when shorted together. There's a lot of cheap meters out there that should work fine for testing Atties/Cartos, tho most come with terrible probs, and probs can wear out and start to give inconsistent readings when the prob wires are moved around.
Also note, if you place the meter on a eGo battery and accidentally have the meter set to Ohms, you may damage the power MOSFET in the eGo, it will get gated (stuck in) open or closed state, always fires or won't fire, and will give a non fixable blinking error light.
