mushroom hunting today..

well its a nice day been warm enough the past few days so going to go out to the woods and look around for some morels..

went out a few weeks ago and found a bunch of puffball mushrooms and stepped on them to get the spores in the area.. they should be showing up soon too..

So when you hunt mushrooms... Do you have to sneak up on them so they don't get scared?

none today.. it needs to rain.. went to some areas that are always wet.. found a bunch none that where safe to eat though..

I have a hard time finding them I always take my nephews and buy them icecream after looking they find more than me..

My husband almost missed his sister's wedding because he was hunting mushroom's. On a side note he did find the biggest he has ever found that day. Has a pic of it on the garage fridge next to a beer can to show its the same size.

You should post pics of what you end up harvesting. I can't stand mushrooms, but I rather enjoy looking at them.

Dogs and pigs are the best devices for finding morels in the woods.

If you get really good at it, you can make some major money selling them as "specialty mushrooms".

Always wanted to try that...so far never lived anywhere near good wild mushrooms.
Not sure SoCal can even grow mold naturally

Anyone tried those grow your own mushroom log things?

I don't have any pigs, but I have a dog who can't find her own chew bone. Don't know how good she'd be finding morels.

Yes Yes Yes most cool. Nice fat blond ones they are probably very dense too? We mostly get blacks and greys with the blond ones only growing in sandy areas.

I haven't sold any yet but I do have a few gallon jars filled with dry ones. It takes a lot of the dried ones to fill one up. I can't wait, well actually I don't have much choice do I??

Morels are very very hard to grow. But, most mushrooms are not hard to grow at all. Just be clean and follow the directions.

they are real good.. they are hard to find around this area.. most i ever found was around 1/2 a pound.. i am up near the dunes area so find mainly the blondes.. there is some ppl around here that have maps that they sit and study for months and mark out areas where they think they will find them.. I just wonder around and try not to get lost for too long in the woods..
