"Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead" - Warren Zevon
While it's been great to see so much more participation in the thread lately, it's also been kind of a mixed blessing. I'm not the official thread-cop or anything, (there actually isn't one), but there has just been way too much of this going on:
Already been posted.
Already been posted.
Already been posted.
Already been posted.
And those are just from the most recent 6 or 7 pages. The Music Game thread has been running for about 2½ years and, unfortunately, that means that tons and tons of songs have already been used.
The "Search Thread" tool at the top of the page is your friend. I almost always search by artist first, or I may search for a unique word in the title of a potential song I want to use.
For example: Say I wanted to post "On the Run" by Pink Floyd. First, I'd search for the word Floyd, and that would bring up every Pink Floyd song that's been used in the thread, (along with whatever few other uses of "Floyd" the thread may contain). Then I'd just sift through the results page(s) for the title I'm looking for.
Also, I make liberal use of quotation marks in my searches. Searching for "On the Run" is going to return much more useful results than if you were to search the terms without the quotes. Without the quotes, you're going to get all manner of random posts that use "run" or "running" or "run on" or whatever. With the quotes, although there may still be some spurious entries in your results, they will definitely include the specific phrase, "On the Run."
Of course, the major drawback to adhering to the "no-reposts" rule is that the searching takes some time. And that, of course, means that you can't often make knee-jerk replies. There's no denying that this takes some of the fun out of playing the game, but the game has rules, and effectively searching for songs before you make your post is pretty much a necessity.
I'm not looking to make anybody quit playing, but I really felt that this needed to be brought to folks' attention.
There are only THREE simple Rules to this game:
1. Your song Title needs to contain a word, or part of a word, from the previous songs Ttile.
2. You need to do a Search in the thread to make sure it hasn't been posted before (and that includes 'covers' by another artist)
3. Post them in Song Tile - Artist format...
And it is up to the other players to make sure the last post is valid before posting their own...It's really not Rocket Science!!

@spacekitty - Roger - I will check up a bunch more than I have to check for duplicates. As for my sig, I'd sure love more players to add it to their signatures, as well, so our little game could grow, and get loads more members vaping and enjoying their fellow vapers' tunes.
(with or w/o VdGG)If you really want to do that, I might suggest that you start your own thread... things have already gotten WAY out of control here and it's taken a lot of the Fun out of it for me... and I'm sure it has for some of the other regulars, too!!!
"Our Way To Fall" - Yo La Tengo
A. The "it is a game" thing could go the other way where fun doesn't trump rules. Just saying. And also wish to note that I'm known off line as 'stickler for the rules' when it comes to games.
B. When I search on something popular, I see duplicates that already exist, which might tell a newbie - hey that must be okay. Would be nice to have someone with 'power' to weed that stuff out, but I realize it'd be a whole bunch of work.
C. I'd like to propose a 'scorecard' for this thread (separate thread, also time consuming / work) where players in this thread get 'x' points for each new, not previously posted, song title. And minus points for duplicates. I think this would draw attention to idea that rules are important to those who participate in this game. Plus, it could give incentive to newer players as I think 'x' could equal more points the longer the thread goes on. So, say 1 point for each new post in pages 1 thru 500 (or lower, I dunno), and 2 points for 500 to 1000, 3 for 1000 to 1250, 4 points for 1250 to 1500, etc. And minus a point for duplicates. Bonus points if you take time to put video in with post. Scorecard could start with page 1000 (going forward) and we get to earlier posts whenever we get to them.
This will be last time I bring up scorecard idea as it isn't the first time (done so privately) and so far not much interest for that. Admittedly, it'd be a bunch of work, but I think could help if this is a game where rules (ultimately) trump fun.
Pretty sure whatever progg posted wasn't music (in the traditional sense).
