Really, is that sort of derision necessary? Look at it from the perspective of the folks who've been playing in this game thread for a couple of years: It's like we were here playing an open game of soccer, and suddenly a bunch of new players walk onto the field and say, "Screw it, I'm using my hands." We're merely trying to get you guys to understand that the thread runs by a long-standing set of rules. Perhaps some posts were presented in a more abrasive tone than I would have used but, by the same token, some players were at a higher level of frustration than me.

New players have always been welcomed, and I love all the new artists and styles that have been flowing in. The thread seems to be moving along quite nicely now, and people seem to be using Search much more consistently and effectively. Let's leave the sarcastic asides behind, and move on with playing the game. :)

Derision!... you want to talk derision... how about you have that chat with SK and take pause to look at it from the standpoint of a newb - unless of course neither of you have found yourselves in an unfamiliar environment and adapted without any degree of fail... then I certainly would bow to your perfect nature. "We're merely trying to get you guys to understand that the thread runs by a long-standing set of rules" - yes, through derision

Using your analogy of a soccer game, have you considered that some people aren't saying "Screw it, I'm using my hands", but rather didn't understand they could only use their feet? What if I just handed you a baseball rulebook, let you read it, and put you on the field... would you not make any mistakes? Granted the rules here are simple, yet they are new to people.

I get it... FFS it seems like half this "game" is sharing music and the other half is nit-picking and exposing faults? And, yes, I can see it from the perspective of the folks who've been playing in this game thread for a couple of years... and I can certainly see how you'd like every new person to instantly apply the experience you'd garnered along the way - except I'm a bit more tolerant of mistakes and willing to educate rather than berate. Last straw... IOOH - this thread should DOTV - it has for me. Drama > Enjoyment...

Album is officially mine, Seebs (and only $6, to boot!). Maybe I'll stop teasing Florida so much, if there are many folks with your taste in tunes:p! Gotta love Carl Hiaasen, though...

LOL... Glad to be of assistance Becky. It's not all "voting machine illeterate" and senile people down here... :) And Carl Hiaasen rules; I did most my ESL (English as a Second Language) learning by reading his novels with a Larousse dictionary and a legal pad - pencil combination. ;)

Dang it; got ninjaed again...

It's a great day to whup somebody's... - Paul Thorn

I may get in trouble for this one... Don't know what management's stand on songs with a bit of language on them is, but I'll take my punishment for this one because it is a great tune. :)

The Great Grandfather - Bo Diddley

Just would like to say it would be nice to have the rulebook that everyone (who is old time regular) is playing by. I did search on "rules" in this thread and learned some things while also seeing similar challenges to rules like the recent ones that have come up.

Like, there's nothing in OP about playing duplicate songs. That just got added in along the way. It's a nifty rule, but it causes controversy, and takes away from the fun, IMO. If a song hasn't been mentioned for 200 pages, who really cares if it was mentioned before? Obviously some of you do, but again, it would be nice to see these updated rules you are all coming from because some of what OP says can't happen, does happen, and other things are enforced that are not mentioned in OP. Then there's the rule of if you challenge, you must provide alternate, but that hasn't been done lately. Which is just tempting to ignore the challenge, but heaven forbid we don't follow an old time regular's made up rules.

I'm here to have fun. I really am. But rules keep getting invoked and it takes away from the fun. When I cite rules, I get called out for 'not having fun.' It's wonderful that some of you all get to have it both ways. While the newbies have only one way they can play, which amounts to half the fun this thread could be (and once was).
