I am not inclined to let things go. However, sometimes you just can't argue with ignorance.

I seriously doubt that her nephew passed out from his e-cig. I find that smokers are often quick to believe the negative press about e-cigs because if they believed they were safe then they would not have an excuse to not try them. People often believe what they want when it justifies their own bad choices :)

Sorry, I totally disagree with those that say just 'walk away'.

My first response would have been, "Did the autopsy show evidence of drugs/alcohol?". Then if she responded, I would have gone thru my documented list of physical and my personal mental/social benefits from vaping.

I know what vaping has done for me and will not kowtow to ignorance! Walkin' away is just reinforcing the other person's ignorance (especially if they smoke).

BTW, I'm 67 years young and will not suffer BS from anyone...

Recently on the BBC News, one chap breathed into a Carbon Monoxide reader which gave a reading of 4. Next he vaped before breathing into the reader, the reading was again 4. Lastly he smoked, and the reading was 10.

When I started vaping, I asked my brother if vaping was dangerous for a persons health, and I think his answer was very balanced; "So far, everything points to no."

When asking if smoking is dangerous for a persons health, and those around them, the answer is very, very different.

If a person wants to rationalize their smoking as a "good thing" then all it takes is a 10 second news clip regarding "dangerous" e-cigs to give them something to clutch onto - until their "healthier" cigarettes stop them dead in their tracks with emphysema. Ask Johnny Carson. Oh yeah - they can't - he died from emphysema. He was also convinced he was immune to the effects of smoking.

Sadly, this also speaks to the dumbing down of civilization if said old person believes she has become an "expert" and done her own research by watching TeeVee news.

"My nephew was using them to stop smoking and he passed out in the front yard" seems to me like a disconnect of two independent incidents. I can think of a lot of things nephews can do to cause them to pass out in the front yard, and stopping smoking wouldn't be on that list.

If the person presenting this crap is of no value to me I just let it go. Not my yob to go around pulling heads out of butts.

I even tried to sneak what was in the ejuice by saying, "Oh wow, he didn't ever have a reaction to any of those things before ?" She said "NO, he just started using it". That's when I said "Yeah, but it's the same thing used in preservatives and some medicine inhalers". Without missing a beat she answered....."It had to have been because of one of them dangerous chemicals they put in there". That's when I just gave the old...."mmmmm......okay"

I think you did ok considering where you were. A lot does depend on the situation I think. If I thought some-one might start a loud argument at a funeral I'd say "mmm....." and move on.

OP said that the nephew passed out not that he had died. Makes me think that the nephew probably passed out due to dehydration or 100 other possible reasons that have nothing to do with vaping :)

Sorry if I didn't come through with the same dramatics as evidenced by the nephew's aunt. Apparently my sarcasm kung fu is gettin' a lil' weak...

Oh, wait... never mind...

Oh WOW, I didn't mean for it to sound like I was at HER nephew's funeral. I'm REALLY sorry for that. It was a member of my motorcycle club that was killed in an accident. She just said her nephew was found unconscious from his e cigarette.

again I am sorry if everyone thought that !!
