My 510 has no throat hit, help please!

As mentioned, I am very happy that I am finally getting some use out of my 510. Thanks for all of the suggestions. As far as the reference to all of the threads on these issues, I am ready to read them, it's a matter of finding them, knowing what key terms to search on. I'm getting there. For example, I didn't even know there was a model specific forum for the 510 that had a lot of activity.
Now that I have got the 510 throat hit, I am running into other problems people mention in other threads, such as overfilling/dripping. I imagine that is partly a matter of experience.
Drawing as slow as possible does make the vapor and hit stronger, another good suggestion. I find after the atty warms, I can draw pretty slow without it cutting off and get good throat hit. Before it warms, the light only stays on about 2 seconds, not enough to suck in a full mouth of vapor. Once it warms, the light more consistently remains on and I can get a good amount. Is this normal behavior for the automatic batteries?
I got some blue foam and tried it, and it worked but I had some leaking, as with the shredded PTB. Same thing with a very scaled back amount of polyfill with the straw mod I had been using.
Also, I had washed the PTB thoroughly with baby shampoo and then rinsed it thoroughly for several minutes, but the vapor still gave off a distinct perfume smell from the shampoo, so I put the rest in distilled water and weighed it down. Gonna let it soak for a few days before continuing to experiment.
I used the crest mouthwash cleaning method (on some weak 901 atty's, I honestly haven't been able to get the 901 cart off that 510 atty; I feel like a fool...) and black specs actually came out of the atomizers. I've not had that happen with any other cleaning method. I have to let them rinse out and dry before I can see if there's any change.
So over all, I am now in a learning curve phase. I will search the 510 forum and read in it for information, and any relevant forum links or additional suggestions would be much appreciated!

I'm sure you'll get it off without damage. After you put it on and take it off a few times it fits a lot better and is easier to remove.
Like I said before.. I think the 901 whistle tip cartridge is superior to the factory 510 unit..... love them on my 510's.
Overfilling is a common problem with the 510. If you had manual batteries it wouldn't be much of a problem. The auto batts are not sealed and juice getting them is bad for them. It takes a while to get the handle on this process of using these PV devices. Don't get discouraged it does work well after you get all the tricks down pat.

Thanks all. I worked on filling the 510 less a few times (with the polyfill) and it got better - the last time I didn't have any leakage. It's just going to take practice.
I'm really starting to understand people's preference for the 510 over the 901. But I do think there is a steep learning curve on it for many people (including me) that should be addressed so that newbies don't just drop it out of frustration, or thinking it's a bad model (which was the route I initially took in thinking until I kept reading the forums and seeing positive testimonials).
Has anyone made something like a 510 model newbie-specific FAQ, video, or sticky post to help get them smoothly into using it?

Put the atty on on old batt if you have one, clean the outside of the cart and atty with alcohol and use latex gloves to get a better grip. You'll probably have to twist the cart while you're pullling (something you don't want to do normally, of course).
If you have to, use pliers on the cart. Better to sacrifice a cart than an atty.
No need, it twisted off without much difficulty by following this method. Thanks so much!
