So after reading about how amazing they are, watching reviews about how amazing they are, I was sold. My first venture into the clearo world, and my first into the syringe world. Got myself a pack of 5 2.4-2.6 ohms. Filled my first one, and it only worked at 3.2-3.4 Volts -_-. Anything higher and I got a burnt taste or dry hit. Tried 4 different juices on it with the same results. vaping at such a low voltage was okay, but nothing near as good as 3.7 and up. Filled my second one, and it was a godsend. Vaped all day at 4 volts and vapor, throat hit, and flavor was incredible! At 4.2 volts I started to get a very slight burnt taste, but it was rockin so well at 4 volts that I was completely satisfied leaving it at 4 volts. In fact, it was so amazing to me that I decided to order 2 of the 3ml version (I hate constantly refilling cartos). I figured that first one was just a one time dud I got. Filled my 3rd one last night, and it was god awful! No matter the voltage, I got a rancid, sweaty smelly sock taste that made me sick. I took it to work with me and didnt bring any backups, so I was forced to go more than half the day without my nic fix, and almost bought a pack of cigarettes on my lunch break. I decided against getting the cigs, but I didn't want to waste my juice, so I begrugingly cranked my Twist all the way up to 4.8 volts to intentionally get the burnt taste, so that it could counter act some of that horrid sweaty sock taste. I vaped through about half the carto, and noticed that the sock taste was diminishing. I turned it back down to 4 volts, and all of a sudden that awful sock taste was pretty much gone. I've now been vaping at 4 volts for the past hour, and the flavor is decent (i still get a very faint sock taste once in a while). So this has been a pretty odd, frustrating and annoying experience. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? Anyone experience anything similar? I'm going to refill that 2nd phoenix later tonight and see if it performs well again.

Hmm, I haven't had those yet, but would they happen come with primer oil on them somewhere?

THAT would taste like <beep> for sure. Perhaps they weren't wicking well enough too...sometimes ya gotta "help" them get wicking fully. Slosh 'em around a bit.

Also pays to just keep a filled and capped carto with ya just in case. They're small. ;)

I had it happen once. I had air in the syringe when I filled it. I sucked the juice back out and took the metal tube out and rinsed it real good and let it sit over night then dry burned it till the coils glowed then filled flicking the syringe to make sure all the air was out and pushing the plunger up till a drop of juice came out then filled and it worked as good as new. Hope this helps.

Also, you may find they don't feed quite right at times. this can be alleviated by trimming the wicks flush with the cup/stem with a pair of nail-clippers. For the record, they DO come with primer in them. I generally take a new one, and vape it empty, until I get that burning coil taste, then fill and vape at 4.7 volts.

Yes they do have primer/antibacterial/shipping fluid.
Some have a little and others may have a lot. I clean them before use as I don't like to vape that stuff.
If not, it will take 1-3 fill-ups to get all that crap vaped out.
One popular vendor explained to me that most devices are made for the masses that use 100% PG and that is the reason for wicking issues for some. True or not, it did make sense at the time.

I use 70/30 PG/VG and trim the wicks @ 45 degrees.
There is plenty of info about them on this site, but if they don't work for you then maybe they are not for you.

Seriously, these are one of the easiest carts to tweak in a long time. Pull the seal, pull the tube, pop the stem off, trim the wicks a bit, re-assemble, fill, and vape. I have a hard time getting these to dry hit on me, and I'm pushing 4.8 volts.

Oops - thought you were talking bottom coils. Top Coils, I have no idea.

You're going to have to tweak if it's thicker than 70/30 or so. And if you insist on going higher voltage, don't get lower ohms. Like skellly pointed out, I think these two designs (or flaws if you will) were sort of made with the larger population of vapors in mind (specifically in China where BetterLife is based). Most people vape PG, not all of the boutique VG syrup popular here. And the lower volts were probably designed with eGo style and/or KR8 devices in mind.

I haven't experienced much of a break in period, other than the first several puffs (not sure how much exactly.. I just puff until I get some extra wicking and bubbles to float up).

Welcome to the world of poor quality control. It's a numbers game, and a reality we all have to put up with. It really sucks that it happened to you, your first time trying a new product. I know that seriously ruins my impressions of a product, and it's very hard to change my mind after that. Sounds like you just got a bad batch.

Its the bottom coils that i used. BTW I ordered 2 3ML Phoenix Tanks, and i got about 30 mins with them before I had to toss them both out. First one gave me awesome hits the first 4 or 5 hits, then turned into a horrid funky flavor. I tried cleaning both of them and tried dry burning the base and the coils would glow but after the first burn the burning noise completely stopped so it looked like they were dead. I think ill just stick to that one good phoenix xl i had till its time to toss it and then go back to boges :/

I think you need a good tank..you don't like fiddling on things, and I'm afraid that is a big part of vaping sometimes. A good quality tank goes a long ways though. Phiniac makes some of the best.

Oh wait, tanks need tweaking too...

Vaping is using a electro-mechanical device, not a paper tube you simply light on fire.

There shall be adjustments needed no matter what you use I'm afraid. But, what guy doesn't like working on technical things and gadgets?? I know I do. :)
