I think ideally it is best to start with a 3.7v big battery and see if that works.
And if it doesn't work then and only then move on to the higher voltages.

I only say that because it seems to me that at 3.7v you really have hardly any reason to worry about blowing your atomizer.
If you are using high voltage, you have to pulse the power, and keep a much closer eye on the atomizer.

And, at least for me, it works just fine at 3.7v every time.
But then I dry burn as routine maintenance so my atomizer never gets that bad in the first place.

I can not say about the voltage, but these batteries are "shorter and fatter" for the 501. My old batteries are long and thin, about the size of a 100mm analog.

Does that help?

Yes, because although a stock 510 battery is 3.7v it has circuitry in it that causes it to run at 3.2v under load.
Which basically means, when in use, it is really a 3.2v battery.

Sounds like you have an Ego/Riva/Tornado/Inferno type of battery.
Those types of batteries have the same circuitry mentioned above as so are really running at 3.2 volts.

Many thanks. When I shop online, it just says high voltage, or 3.7. So, how do I know I am ordering a "true" 3.7?

And the same goes for any Ego/Riva/Tornada/Inferno battery.

If you buy some kind of mod to use regular non-electronic cigarette batteries they will all be true 3.7v batteries.

For instance, my Chucks use a 3.7v 18650 battery, and my Bartleby uses a 3.7v 14500 battery.
These mods were all made to use 510 connectors so I use my 510 atomizers on them.

Or as an alternative, you could buy KR808D-1 batteries and a KR808D-1/510 adapter.
KR808D-1 batteries do run at a true 3.7v under load.

Thanks. So, any "3.7" battery that I buy will actually operate at 3.2. Got it. I guess I have to search this forum for mods to batteries? Is there a link to modding batteries?

No, sorry, you don't mod the batteries, you buy a mod which is essentially a holder for a bigger battery.

Although once you get into mods, a whole world opens up.
You can look into variable voltage mods, bottom-feeding mods, and many other options.

Thanks Highping! This the first time I clean my atty. Been vaping for a month now, didn't clean them. Cuz I was afraid I would destroy them. I'm using cartos most of the time. But once in awhile I would drip to taste new flavors. One of the atty was going bad, was hard to drag. So I decide to give it a try. It hard in the beginning, because all I have was stock batteries. Couldn't get the orange glow for over 20 minutes of trying to do it. And it kept having gurgling and pop noise. So I read all the replies from this thread. And tried what you suggested with stock batteries: to vape it, but dun inhale till no gurgling noise. I used a drip tip and it work after a few tries! I did all the steps and repeat 2 -7. The 2nd time it took me like 5 minutes to get the glow! Thanks! And the atty is working great now! I'm going to clean the other atty.

I gave this a try on a handful of atomizers (with a 510 mega passthrough). Everything seems to happen according to the instructions... I get to the final step of running through the process twice, and I no longer see or smell burnt vapor coming off the atty. However, at the end I get an atomizer that has an incredible, clean, like-new draw but a pervasive burnt atomizer taste. Any ideas?

Try adding more drops of your liquid - Drip 5 drops when the atty is empty, then blow lightly to push the liquid down a little, and then add 3 more drops. This will get rid of the burnt taste. Then add 3 drops after about 9 drags (or when you detect a slight burnt taste).

(The advice that I see so often on this forum is to add 3 drops - but that's after you've already primed the atty with 5 drops -- the liquid that stays in the ceramic bowl.)

Assuming you've done as deback suggested in the post above, and that is not the issue...

There are a couple of ways I can think of where this might happen:
1) You didn't wash the atomizer out after doing the dry burns so there is a bunch of ash in the atomizer
2) You didn't wash the atomizer out REAL good with hot water before doing the dry burns
3) You ran the atomizer so hot, for so long, that you melted the plastic disk under the atomizer coil pot

I often suspect (2) as being an issue that many people run across when they do dry burns.

I think if you don't rinse it out real good with hot water first it might be possible to permanently bake juice down in the mesh.
I don't know if this is really possible or not, but if it is, the higher the voltage the more likely the possibility.


By the way, I am just speculating here.
I have done about 30 dry burns and never had this issue.

Just tried it and it works very well so far. To be honest, I haven't used the cats that came with my Ego until now. I did try them when I got it, but I didn't like the fact that the atty went dry before the juice was gone. Then I tried the spring method and it leaked too much. I took the inner cup out of a cart and started dripping with that until my tip arrived. Yourmethod will be helpful in those on the go situations. Thanks for the tip.
