This is some really good stuff.
I love this method of cleaning out my attys and do it pretty often to keep them in working order and to clear flavors out when I'm dripping (After blowing the attys out, I dry burn until it stops smoking). However, I've burnt out my only 2 LR attys by dry burning for incredibly short periods of time. I mean just enough to get the coil orange once I burn off the juice, the atty stops working entirely. Why is this? Is there a way around it? Is there something I'm missing? Standard Resistance Atomizers are no problem and I keep them alive indefinitely this way, but the LRs end up in a grave long before their time just from burning off the juice - And that makes me sad.
What style atties (510, 306, etc)?? Which brand? What PV/voltage are you running?
510 Joye LR Attys on a Riva and/or Mega eGo (3.7 and 3.2 volts, respectively)

I too have used this method with success on regular Joye 510s. Just got my first pair of LRs, and many members here say it's a bad idea to use the dry burn technique (I'm using stock eGo batts, listed as 3.7v). I haven't needed to clean them yet, but would love to know if it's worth the risk as I'll be using LRs exclusively from now on. I can see most of the coil, and can get it to a steady orange glow fairly easily so I'm tempted to give it a shot. Anyone have success with LRs? (sorry if this has already been answered but i didn't have time to read the entire 60 pages of this thread)
Works with LRs too... but you have to follow the directions and not let it get too hot for too long... jog the button!
Egos are listed at 3.7v, but put out closer to 3.2
Tried it last night, seemed to work just fine and took me less than 10 minutes. Did two cycles (rinse, blow, burn x2) and it cleaned up nicely! Only thing - when I was done, I dropped about 5 drops of my 24mg PG Ry4 in there, waiting, dropped another 2, and hit it - burnt popcorn taste. Another 2 drops - burnt popcorn. It took me maybe 12 drops total to get rid of it. Is this normal? Or should I rinse it out after the last burn and let it dry manually?
What kind of 510 atomizers do you have?A completely clean and dry 510 holds a lot of juice... 10-12 drops is normal to get it vaping again...

I have never seen anyone suggest more than 5 or 6 drops for a clean, dry atomizer.
I may have seen once or twice someone say maybe 7 or 8 for an LR atomizer.
Mine are all Joyetech standard 510 atomizers and anything more than 5 drops will flood them.
And that is when they are completely clean and dry.
I did have some LR 510 atomizers and they took a lot more drops, but 10 or 12 drops?
Maybe your drops are miniscule due to whatever bottle you are using?

I'm using Joye LR 510s...dropping from a standard 10ml bottle. From clean and dry 10 drops didn't seem to flood it at all.
That one.
Flooded to me is when the vapor production is low and the flavor is off, usually accompanied by a bit of gurgling.
After a couple of drags the vapor production picks up and the flavor is back to normal.
But you're using LR atomizers, and I do remember when I used those briefly they sure held a lot more drops.
The weird thing was, no matter how many drops I put in, I never seemed to get more drags out.
That might be it... but ya know, I dont really use 510s anymore... I just know they hold more than 306... which is about 7 drops : )
My experience suggests otherwise. I was a 510 user for long before I was introduced to 306 atties. For me, 510s never required more than 5 drops to prime when new or after cleaning. Adding six drops resulted in gurgle (semi-flooding). OTOH, 306 atties require about 2 more drops for priming than 510s. That's why so many 510 users have problems when trying 306 atties because they prime them like 510s, not enough drops...
