Hey guys, Just wanted to Introduce myself on the Canada forums, name's Jon, From just north of Toronto near the 400,

I quit analogs a little while ago, and just bought myself an amazing "Canadian" Lavatuve VV mod, loving it so far, so much better than the "mall-style" 510 I had before :)
anyways, I was pretty low on liquid the other day and put an order through from Ian at Maple Leaf Vapes, went to go pick it up tonight, and ended up waiting at the wrong location for about 3 hours, I'm such a blockhead haha, :(
Anyways, Ian if you see this, My bad, I'm really sorry :(

I just wanted to ask for some advice about this recent cough I've been having, it's like I feel like my lungs are about to be ripped out, I've only had it for a couple of days recently, I believe its me hacking up all the tar in my lungs from my pack a day smoking habit, is this normal when quitting? :S
If so, when can I expect it to stop? It makes me feel like garbage and I'm really hoping its not from the vaping...

Thanks a bunch!

Welcome John,

The weezing and coughing is usually happens when you stop smoking, its a result of you lungs clearing themselves. As you smoke your cilia( hair like stuff in your lungs that send dirt and other impurities back up into the throat by releasing mucus, which then gets swallowed or coughed out) gets damaged and stops working. Once you stop smoking these cilia start regenerating it gives your that itching sensation, and since these cilia start regenerating and working again it starts sending dirt and other impurities ( tar) up your throat releasing mucus. This is the most likely reason for your coughs =p. These side effect are good since its the cleaning of your lungs =p.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I guess somebody has to be paranoid. Might as well be me. It is true that you will hack up a lot of crud after quitting. I got to be real good at quitting and it always happened after a few days. But... If I were you I would go see your GP just to be sure. Sometimes stopping will reveal something hiding amid the smoke and ruins of your lungs. Not saying anything is there, just covering all the bases. One thing is fer sure. Quitting the tobacco leaf is going to be the best thing you have ever done for yourself and anyone that gives a hoot. Dont let anyone tell you that vaping is just as bad for you -- that is a damn lie! I have read several papers that make it clear. Vaping is no more harmful to your health than stopping to smell the roses.

It's also possible, since it IS that time of year (although it hasn't quite actually turned in to that time of year in Toronto yet lol) that you just have a common cold right now. I remember reading a forum post a while back that quitting actually puts you at a higher risk of getting a cold, since you don't have one of the many chemicals coursing through your veins anymore.

Just a thought! Maybe try a couple tastes of Buckleys :blink: :D:D

A few tips:

- Drink a lot of water! PG is a humectant and absorbs a lot of water, so you need to keep yourself hydrated.
- Try different combinations of PG/VG juices (50-50, 70-30, 100% VG)
- Try different flavors
- Try different atomizers/cartomizers. For me anything that's dual-coil gives me shortness of breath, but a horizontal coil cartomizer doesn't have that effect on me.

Thank you so much guys for the input, Ill be sure to dink lots of water as I usually Vape 100% PG or close to it, that must explain the dry mouth I have all the time, I believe it IS from the quitting though, as I only have the cough-like symptoms in the early morning, and it usually only lasts a few minutes at most.

I hope I haven't done too much damage to my lungs for smoking, as I was only a social smoker for about 4 years, and only recently was a PAD smoker (or close to it).

Vaping truly is amazing, and I don't even feel like I NEED to vape nowadays, I just do it b/c I absolutely LOVE it haha :)
