That spring is there to keep the battery in position to contact the firing pin.
But it also provides a feature that enables it to collapse in case of a short. So when a short happens the battery drops down and will no longer touch the firing pin.
Your longer battery and snip of the spring, has removed this safeguard from your REO.
If you have a REO Grand, you might be able to remove and replace the spring yourself.
If you have a REO Woodvil, the spring assembly will need to be soldered.
Buying the "right" spring is important, Rob has them on his site.

Please don't use the mod with these batteries. Its dangerous you have to have some room for the battery to drop if a short was to ever happen . Use the aw imr 18650 only
AW IMR18650 1600mAh LiMN rechargeable lithium battery

is that one the same for the grand as the woodvill ?

NO, the spring used for the Grand is not the one that was linked above. This is the correct one, and they are out of stock...BUT if you pm Rob he probably has more that he hasn't added to his site. He can also explain how to change it out yourself (which is alot easier on the metal reos...)
